Q&A
Med Spa Practitioner/Doctor
What are your top aesthetic treatments?
The most common are BOTOX®/DYSPORT®, which are the gold standard when it comes to treating fine lines and wrinkles between the brows, crow’s feet around the eyes, and other areas. Both corrective and preventive, I generally advise clients to begin treatment sooner rather than later, to prevent wrinkles from deepening. We initially treat conservatively because you can always add more. I recommend a two-week follow-up appointment is recommended for optimal results.
Our clients also love the JUVÉDERM® products, which include a variety of fillers for different areas of the face, depending on their goal. VOLUX® XC is one that improves jawline definition where skin laxity is a concern. Results last up to a year, and our clients absolutely love it. SKINVIVE™ is injected subcutaneously, tiny microdroplets of hyaluronic acid, just under the skin, so you won’t see any change in the shape or volume of your face — just healthier, more hydrated, and smoother-looking skin for a lasting glow.
How should I prepare for an injectable treatment?
We start with an in-person consultation to examine your face up close because everyone’s needs are different. Additionally, with injectables, you should avoid blood thinners like aspirin or any blood-thinning agent that can potentially increase your chances of bruising three to five days prior to your treatment. As well, every patient goes through an annual “good faith” exam where a nurse practitioner evaluates your medical history and signs off for us to treat you safely.
What can I expect during the treatment?
First, we’ll discuss your treatment plan. Sometimes a topical numbing cream may be used. After that takes effect, we mindfully administer the injections, taking care to place it exactly where it needs to be. Afterwards, you’ll go home with an ice pack and some instructions of what to avoid for a couple of days, like excessive heat and exercise, because we want your body to integrate with the fillers.
What are some of your other favorite treatments?
For years, one of our favorites is medical microneedling. We recently acquired the newest microneedling device on the market. Initially, we had a device that had 12 microneedles. The COLLAGEN P.I.N. has 36 needles, which may seem like a lot, but the numbing treatment renders any sensation extremely dull. The COLLAGEN P.I.N. penetrates the dermal layer of the skin, creating a dermal injury that stimulates collagen, which tones and tightens the skin. Additionally, it decreases pore size and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Acne scarring, trauma, or surgical scars are improved dramatically with microneedling treatments. We recommend three treatments, four weeks apart, and then re-evaluating whether additional sessions are necessary.
What should I look for in a provider?
Research your injectors online and make sure that you’re in a safe, reputable place. If you ever walk into an establishment and feel uncomfortable, listen to your inner voice. When it comes to your skin, and especially your face, you want to be sure that your safety is valued, and everything is above board.
