Meet Your PA – Alex Fischer
Alex Fischer is one of the more recognizable faces at Signature Dermatology in McKinney. A graduate of Plano West High School and the prestigious University of Arkansas, where she also played four years of soccer, Fischer has been with the practice since 2017. She started as Dr. Selkin’s trusty medical assistant before leaving in 2019 to attend PA school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. While there, she was the director of UTMB’s Shriners Burn Hospitals for Children and Ronald McDonald programs. She returned to Signature Dermatology in 2021 as a PA, adding a unique perspective to care given her experience as a medical assistant and provider.
Fischer said her love for medicine has been engrained in her since she was a young child. Her older sister, Payton, was born with special needs and sadly passed away at 5 — a month before Alex was born. Having heard countless heartwarming stories about her sister in the following years, Alex developed a deep appreciation for medicine and a desire to help people.
“I grew up thinking I’d work in pediatric oncology someday, but I ultimately fell in love with dermatology. At the end of the day, we get to care for people and treat a lot of interesting cases. I had the good fortune of working with Dr. Selkin as his medical assistant during my gap year after high school, and even when I went to PA school, I found ways to come back during breaks to shadow him and learn more. Returning to work here when I graduated from Galveston made complete sense.”
Rounding Out a Compassionate Team
Regardless of which location you visit, Signature Dermatology has experienced, compassionate, and skilled providers. Dr. Selkin graduated as chief educational resident and was fellowship-trained in clinical trials in dermatology from Harvard. He specializes in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology and has received numerous awards. Dr. Farmer attended Duke University to obtain her biomedical engineering undergraduate degree. Following graduation, she worked as a mechanical engineer designing missile-launching tanks before pursuing a different career path in medicine. She earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where she remained for her internal medicine internship. She completed her residency in Detroit at Henry Ford Hospital, where she had the opportunity to work with leaders in pigmentary skin disorders, phototherapy, follicular disorders, and complex medical dermatology.
Dr. Kollipara earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. She then completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Colorado-Denver, a clinical research fellowship in Houston, and her dermatology residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Meyer earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed an internship at Yale School of Medicine.
