Since 2018, HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress has been committed to leading the way in healthcare as the No. 1 provider for the growing communities along the 290 corridor.

This thriving center devoted to wellness and healing currently operates as a general acute care hospital equipped with an accredited Chest Pain Center, an accredited Bariatric Center of Excellence, and is certified as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. They offer a wide range of comprehensive services, including heart and vascular surgery, neurological care, orthopedic care, and oncology care.

Yet, even after nearly two decades of service, things are not slowing down. HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress is amid a $100 million construction project that will increase the bed count from 163 to 216 beds and include acute rehab services.

“We’ll have a dedicated unit providing extended stay acute rehab, which is a service that we have not historically provided,” said Jim Brown, HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress CEO and board certified healthcare executive (FACHE). “It will also afford us the capacity to expand our critical care beds within the hospital. We already operate 28 intensive care beds and 24 intermediate care beds, but the additional 31-bed unit affords us the opportunity to continue to grow those programs.”

These additions are critical for HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, as they have recently launched two high-acuity programs to service Northwest Harris County and Central Texas. One of those is the comprehensive stroke program. The hospital has recently publicly announced that they are in pursuit of comprehensive stroke, meaning that they can do an intervention on any patient who is suffering a stroke.

“This is a level of care not previously available in Cypress,” said Brown, “and we are now able to offer this important service.”

The hospital has also recently elevated their trauma program, declaring that they are in pursuit of a Level III trauma designation. Brown explained that hospital leadership felt that this, too, was a level of service that the community needed, and that providing both the stroke program and the trauma designation represent a more expansive service than existed in the market previously.

“For example, if you look at our stroke program,” said Brown, “this care previously was leaving our area and as a result of us now providing this, residents of Cypress and residents of the 290 corridor have closer access to those services. Cypress residents can stay in Cypress, which I think is important. So that will be a huge benefit to
our population.”

Regarding trauma, Brown shared that HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress partners closely with Cy-Fair EMS and other EMS agencies. The new trauma designation will keep their units in the area where otherwise they might leave.

“As we elevated our services,” said Brown, “we found that our decisions are fully supported by our local EMS community and seemed to be a need with our growing population. The traffic in this area is increasingly congested, so our services close to home can mean the difference between life and death. It can mean the difference between severe repercussions from a stroke or other trauma rather than slighter, more manageable repercussions. We’re excited to be able to provide these services as a Level III trauma center.”

From a physician standpoint, HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress has added two neuro-endovascular surgeons to support the stroke programs who can provide clinical intervention 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have also added  trauma surgeon coverage to go with the trauma three program that also affords surgical intervention 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Additionally, we have opened a hybrid Operating Room (OR) that serves as an interventional suite, like a cardiac cath lab housed within an operating room,” shared Brown. “The new OR services the vascular surgery program which has grown and is very complex, so we were very happy to add that as well.”

Additionally, the HCA campus is almost 20 years old. Importantly, two of the medical office buildings that were original to the campus are undergoing $25 million renovations in order to modernize the campus with updated aesthetics. Beyond the growth and expansion at HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, Brown, along with his colleagues and

staff are extraordinarily proud of the recognized quality of care that they provide the community.

“The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital rating focused exclusively on hospital safety, using grades A-F to inform consumers,” explained Brown. “We are a Leapfrog A hospital, which represents the very best, highest grade any hospital can achieve.”

As well, HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress is the beneficiary of several clinical benchmarking awards where they have been recognized nationally by the Healthgrades organization, with multiple clinical programs that are ranked in the top 50 nationally as well as multiple programs ranked in the top 100 nationally. HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress was ranked in the top 5% of hospitals for patient safety with a Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence award, a designation they have received two years in a row. And if that weren’t enough, they were also named one of the 250 best hospitals in the United States by Healthgrades.

“Our hospital is filled with a compassionate, patient-focused team of doctors, nurses, and support staff who live in this community and raise their families here. They are dedicated to providing their friends, neighbors, and families with the highest and best quality care anywhere around,” said Brown. “And you can trust that.”
