Why should I be concerned about hearing loss?
Ignoring hearing loss can put you at risk for serious health issues, such as cognitive decline, anxiety, depression, and an increased risk of falls. Hearing loss can be caused by poor heart health and circulation and is also a sign of rheumatoid arthritis, otosclerosis, worsening diabetes, or exposure to toxic chemicals. Given the connections between hearing loss and your overall health, it pays to get hearing tests on a regular basis. We partner with your primary care physicians to ensure they receive all the information about your hearing.
Should I be concerned about ringing in my ears?
If you experience ringing, buzzing, hissing, or clicking sounds in your ears that last five minutes or longer, you are probably suffering from tinnitus, which is typically caused by damage to the cochlea or inner ear. Tinnitus can be caused by exposure to loud noises, head or neck injuries, aging, wax build-up, or specific medications. Because there is no cure for tinnitus, we typically address it with sound therapy or behavioral therapy to help you find the coping skills to treat and live with it, so that life is more enjoyable.
Can I afford hearing aids?
Yes. Options exist for every person. We customize your treatment plan based on your hearing loss, your lifestyle, your needs, and your budget. We accept insurance and most plans will cover the testing and the hearing aids to some degree. We even offer financing plans, if needed. While it may seem expensive, consider that above and beyond the aid itself, pricing includes concierge service. Our patients get one-on-one time, attention, and instruction with us for upwards of six hours over the course of their treatment.
How can I prevent hearing loss?
Limit exposure to any loud noises — even lawn mowers or power tools — by using some sort of hearing protection that you can get from the hardware store. Wear protection when you are shooting guns. We also do custom ear molds for music lovers who attend concerts. Understand your family history and the correlation between other health issues. Monitor any changes in your hearing and get tested regularly.
