There was a recent celebration at Beacon Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation. As Executive Director Cory Blomquist explained, “Every month in our staff meeting, we celebrate staff anniversaries. Last month we had an employee celebrate 20 years working here.” That’s not as unusual as you might think. In an industry with historically high turnover, Beacon Harbor is happy to have many
longtime employees.
Nestled on the shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, this state-of-the-art rehab community offers both short-term and long-term care with a few outstanding features. Where many such facilities focus on physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy for their short-term rehabilitation patients but much less so for their long-term residents, Beacon Harbor is committed to maintaining the quality of these therapies for the life of their patients. “Our entire team is in-house and they’re passionate about helping our residents continue to thrive, even after they transition to long-term care,” Cory said. “Continuing their therapy is the best way we know to help them maintain their functional abilities, independence, and overall well-being.”
Additionally, when a short-term patient leaves Beacon Harbor, they have the option of either returning for outpatient care or having the team continue their therapy with them in their home. “Our team is all about our patients,” Cory said. “The patients fall in love with them and are thrilled to be able to transition to outpatient care and continue working with the team they love.”
The recently remodeled lakeside facility is homey in the best sense of the word. Family members are encouraged to join their loved ones in activities, therapy, and mealtimes. “We have lovely common meeting areas with amazing lake views that are usually brimming with family and friends,” Cory said.
There’s never a dull moment either. Residents and their visitors can enjoy ice cream socials, arts and crafts, music appreciation classes, even cooking classes. Local musicians and artists often visit, and the staff is always open to activity requests. Beacon Harbor offers several different church services in different denominations each week. And residents enjoy age-modified exercise classes, fun excursions, and lively card games and board games.
The internet is filled with five-star reviews of Beacon Harbor written by happy family members. One of them reads, “Our family has been with this facility for many years and have two family members there now. They have awesome people who are working from their hearts. They give 100 percent to all and will become like your family. The administration and workers go above and beyond to do all for your loved ones. And they have the best physical therapy department we’ve ever worked with. Let Beacon Harbor be a part of your loved one’s journey to rehab or skilled nursing. It will be a place where they’ll feel they’re at home and God has placed them with a loving new family.”
