From small beginnings with six students two mornings a week, All Ears! Center has grown to serve nearly 2,000 patients annually from ages 17 days to 92 years. The nonprofit center’s mission to foster lifelong learning, literacy, and independence in children who are deaf and hard of hearing through a comprehensive and family-focused Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) program, regardless of a family’s financial resources, endures and grows, fostered by a team of highly trained and compassionate professionals. Last year, the hearing health specialists served over 600 children from birth to three years.
Executive Director Lee Rech calls the LSL “our pride and joy.” Starting with a newborn hearing screening, All Ears! Center works to guide children and their families to the appropriate technology for their needs, including cochlear implants and hearing aids. Then the program works to help children learn to listen and talk so that they can listen, talk, and learn alongside their friends, family, and classmates. For optimal outcomes, children need this intervention between birth and age three when the brain is learning to listen and speak.
“The outcome is life-changing,” Lee says. “We are committed to removing barriers for children with hearing loss so they can experience mainstream education and lifelong independence. We offer early and timely intervention with no waiting lists. Through donations and other support, these services are made available to children regardless of the family’s ability to pay.”
The dedicated staff of All Ears! Center works daily to make sure all receive the help they need. The children who have hearing loss continue to need services as adults. While children remain central to All Ears! Center’s mission, the center has added new staff to the hearing health team to serve these adults, as well as other adults who are in danger of becoming isolated because of hearing loss.
In addition to Dr. Megan Marsh, Director of Clinical Services; Dr. Julie Cordell, Director of Pediatric Audiology and Family Services, Dr. Krista Reyes, Adult Audiologist, has recently joined the team. She treats patients over age 18 to ensure their continued abilities to communicate and interact. Amber Stehlik, Speech Language Pathologist, Certified Listening & Spoken Language Specialist/Auditory Verbal Therapist and Marney Vitthal, Speech Language Pathologist, Listening & Spoken Language Specialist Mentee, provide specialized guidance and coaching to parents as their children learn to listen, talk, read and thrive.
On Saturday, October 11, volunteers and sponsors will gather for a day of fun, food, and recreation at the 2025 Sporting Clays Tournament at the Blackwood Gun Club in Conroe. Proceeds from the event directly benefit children’s programming and the Center’s comprehensive continuum of care.
You can support this vital work to help equip families with the tools, technology, and training needed for a lifetime of independence by attending or sponsoring this event or making a donation. Be a Hear-O and give the gift of hearing!
