Parenting is full of joy, but it can also bring challenges that leave families searching for extra support. At Colorful Mind Wellness in Prosper, Shalee Stevens, an LPC Associate supervised by Dr. Desiree Stephens LPC-S, NCC, Certified-CCPT, TLHL LMHC, is dedicated to helping children discover their strengths and build resilience, no matter what life brings.

“I’ve always been passionate about working with children and making a meaningful impact,” Shalee says. “While I enjoyed my role as a paraprofessional, I realized my true calling was outside the classroom — helping children and families navigate important life moments.”

With a master’s in clinical mental health and counseling from East Texas A&M and more than a decade of experience supporting children with special needs, Shalee brings a deep understanding of empathy and patience to her practice. Her approach is rooted in teaching children how to express and regulate emotions — skills she believes are the foundation for lifelong well-being.

At Colorful Mind Wellness, inclusivity is at the heart of everything. “When choosing a name for my private practice, I wanted something that reflected inclusivity and honored the diversity of how people think, feel, and experience the world,” Shalee says. “Each individual’s perspective is shaped by their unique life journey, and I aimed to create a space that feels welcoming to all.”

Parents will find a thoughtful, structured process that begins with a free 15-minute phone consultation. “For child counseling, the first session is held with parents or legal guardians only,” Shalee says. This allows families to discuss history, concerns, and goals before their child begins therapy. From there, sessions are customized to meet each child where they are, with regular parent updates built into the process.

Shalee specializes in a range of therapeutic techniques, including sandtray therapy, expressive arts therapy, bibliotherapy, CBT, DBT, and EMDR. She often incorporates videos and visual aids to match a child’s learning style. Whether working with a preschooler, teen, or even adults, her goal remains the same: to create a safe, supportive environment where clients feel understood and empowered.

“The therapeutic process looks different for everyone,” she says. “Some clients achieve their initial goals and conclude therapy, while others discover new goals along the way and choose to continue their work.”

Ultimately, Shalee hopes her clients leave with confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of self-worth. “My hope is for my clients to finish therapy feeling confident and equipped with the skills to handle life’s ups and downs and manage their emotions in healthy ways. Most importantly, I want them to know they’re never alone — that someone is always in their corner, believing in them.”

For parents, that reassurance can mean everything. Knowing your child has a safe space to express themselves, grow, and be supported can lighten the load and open the door to brighter days ahead. Whether your family is facing a specific challenge or you’re simply seeking extra tools to help your child thrive, Shalee Stevens at Colorful Mind Wellness offers a compassionate path forward.
