Imagine all the businesses a package-delivery driver encounters in a single workday, the best and the worst of them. They see employees who are treated as valued members of a team and those who decidedly are not. They pop in and out of businesses with an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation and those where you can “cut the air with a knife.”
That breadth of experiences made it all the more poignant recently when a UPS driver commented how he can tell the team members at Dr. Karen Williamson’s dental practice are happy to work there. “Every time I come in, I see y’all laughing and joking together and with your patients,” he said. “This must be a great place to work.” The dental team couldn’t agree more.
Long-time patients of Dr. Williamson often tell her the practice feels like home, and they always feel welcome when they visit. “We see our patients during the happiest times in their life and the hardest times,” she said. “Because of this, we realize they may not always be ready to do the treatment we’ve recommended to them.”
When someone is caring for an aging parent or juggling a career and child rearing, Dr. Williamson and her team understand. “It’s our job to listen to them, present them with their treatment options, then respect the timeline in which they’re ready to move forward. There’s no shame in that.”
When it is time to move forward with treatment, the Williamson team offers the very latest in dental advancements. “I may be the more ‘seasoned’ dentist in town, but I have a passion for new technology and continuing my education and the education of my team,” she said. In fact, Dr. Williamson recently acquired new software that reads dental X-rays to detect cavities and abscesses earlier than ever before. It also allows her to show the patient everything she sees in their mouth to help them understand the “why” behind any treatment she recommends.
“I love that my job requires me to be a lifelong learner,” she said. “My passion has only increased year after year thanks to all the new developments. The joy of helping my patients improve their health never gets old. For me, dentistry isn’t about a cavity. It’s about overall wellness and optimum health.”
Dr. Williamson also offers extensive testing to identify bacteria associated with gum disease — both in office and through second-party laboratory testing — to specifically tailor targeted treatment.
Life outside of work is full and fulfilling for Dr. Williamson, including a new grandbaby and a role in an upcoming production of The Sound of Music at Rockwall Community Playhouse. She volunteers her time working in forensic dentistry, helping offer closure to Dallas County families who’ve lost a loved one through disaster or violence. And she donates a portion of all teeth whitening to her pet charity, Patriot Paws. Find out more at KarenWilliamsonDDS.com.
