Q&A

Orthodontist

How have braces advanced in the years you’ve been an orthodontist?

Orthodontic technology has come a long way. One of the biggest advancements I now offer my patients is the Damon Ultima System. This system is truly the pinnacle of orthodontic treatment and that is why we only offer Damon-style treatment at McNeal Orthodontics.

The Damon Ultima System allows me to address individual needs, allowing me to align your smile in a way that’s best for your unique facial aesthetic using the most advanced treatment. This system reduces friction and improves oral hygiene by eliminating elastic ties resulting in improved health and shorter treatment times.

What about advancements in aligners?

Clear aligners have seen major advancements too. I work with Spark clear aligners because they offer me detailed precision and offer increased patient comfort. They’re virtually invisible, more stain resistant, and more comfortable creating a more aesthetic look. And I can tailor Spark aligners specifically to each patient’s orthodontic needs.

What technology has really changed the way you practice orthodontics?

Well, I know my patients prefer digital scanning over goopy impressions. Digital scans are more accurate and detailed. The scanner is a compact, hand-held, radiation-free wand that allows me to scan the teeth in two to three minutes and capture a precise digital scan of your teeth, gums, and jaw. It then creates a highly accurate 3D digital model of your teeth and soft tissue, which serves as a guide for customizing your treatment.

How does remote monitoring work?

My patients lead busy lives. So, I’m always looking for ways to make treatment more convenient for them. With remote monitoring I’m able to follow my patients’ treatment progress closely even when they’re not in the office. Patients simply scan their smile once a week using an app on their smartphone which allows me to track their progress and see if they need to come in to see me or not, eliminating unnecessary appointments.

Am I too old for braces?

You’re never too old to have a beautiful healthy smile. Properly aligned teeth are easier to keep clean, eliminating tooth decay and gum disease which can benefit your overall health. Besides, with clear aligners, you and I are the only ones who have to know you’re straightening your teeth.

Do I need a referral to see you?

No, that may have been the case in the past, but you do not need a referral to make an appointment at McNeal Orthodontics. And the best news is your initial consultation is complimentary. When you’re ready to begin your orthodontic journey, give us a call to schedule your consultation appointment. Your first visit will include a comprehensive exam, digital X-rays, diagnostic photos, and a one-on-one consultation with Dr. McNeal. Our treatment coordinator will discuss costs, your insurance benefits, and a personalized payment plan for any out-of-pocket expenses. During your appointment, Dr. McNeal will review what treatment options are ideal for your customized smile design.
