Should I get a chiropractic adjustment while I’m pregnant?
We see a fair number of pregnant patients. Chiropractic is a natural fit at a time when you may be suffering from issues during pregnancy, such as carpal tunnel or spinal problems but shouldn’t take medication or be X-rayed. Local obstetricians and midwives send their patients to us so we can help them find relief naturally. As your pregnancy progresses, you’ll be carrying a larger and larger load, your gait might change, and all that weight bearing can result in sacroiliac or low-back problems.
Not only are you dealing with added weight but you’re supporting another life. We also partner with pregnant women throughout their pregnancy to counsel them on nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle. Of course, every pregnancy is different. But maintaining good muscle tone and optimum health throughout your pregnancy can benefit you during labor and delivery, not to mention supporting your baby.
Do you treat children as well?
We treat children of all ages, even newborns. Of course, chiropractic adjustments are different for our younger patients. We’ve done cranial work on children with misshapen skulls. But all children experience mini traumas throughout their days. Some of their parents won’t even witness. Children don’t yet have fully functioning immune systems or musculoskeletal systems. So, anything we can do to help them develop optimally and to address the traumas they encounter throughout their days can help them grow up strong and healthy.
Do you also treat geriatric patients?
We treat quite a few seniors. Peripheral neuropathy can be a real issue for them. Many patients tell me that when they see their PC for peripheral neuropathy, they’re prescribed pharmaceuticals, period. These drugs don’t address the root cause of peripheral neuropathy. They just mute the pain. We can show seniors a healthier way to manage and improve their conditions. There’s no need to be in pain but there’s also no need to be on unnecessary medication.
Considering the number one cause of trauma and death in those over 65 is falling and that, when someone breaks their hip, they have a 30% chance of dying within the next year, anything we can do to help maintain balance and the health of their legs can help minimize a fall. We want to do everything we can to help our patients maintain balance and flexibility in their legs and back to decrease the chance of falling.
You mentioned nutritional counseling. Is that something else you offer?
Think about it. You don’t only see a dentist when you have a cavity. You see them to help prevent cavities. It’s far better to start early and maintain good health than to wait until you’re sick or in pain and try to make up for lost time. For that reason, we offer nutritional counseling and health coaching to complement chiropractic care and offer our patients the full, rich, pain-free lives they want with the least amount of pharmaceutical or surgical intervention.
