Q&A

Pain Management

What is a pain management clinic, and how is it different from other medical practices?

A pain management clinic is a medical practice focused on diagnosing and treating both short-term and chronic pain. What makes it different is our commitment to treating the root cause of pain rather than simply masking symptoms. Pain is not just about inflammation or injury. Your nervous system, emotional health, sleep, and past experiences also influence it. Our clinic combines medical interventions with a broader understanding of how pain works in the body and brain. If you or someone you care about is suffering from pain, you probably want to know as much as possible about the condition. We have built an extensive library to help you understand the causes of your pain. You can view that by visiting the Resource Library section at clearwaypain.com. We also have two locations in Flower Mound and Addison to serve you or a loved one. Our mission at both practice locations is to relieve your pain, empower you to renew yourself, and enjoy your life through comprehensive, compassionate care.

What types of conditions can you treat?

We treat a wide range of conditions, including back and neck pain, sciatica, joint pain, neuropathy, migraines, arthritis, and pain related to injuries or surgeries. Some patients come to us after trying multiple treatments without relief. Others are looking for alternatives to surgery or long-term medications. We welcome anyone seeking a personalized, thoughtful plan to manage their pain and improve their daily function.

Do I need a referral to be seen by a pain management professional?

That depends on your insurance plan. Some HMO policies require a referral from your primary care provider, but many PPO plans and Medicare do not. If you are unsure, our staff can help verify your coverage and guide you through the process.

What can i expect in terms of treatments you provide?

We offer a comprehensive range of evidence-based treatments. These include image-guided injections, nerve blocks, epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablation, joint injections, spinal cord stimulation, and regenerative therapies. In addition to physical therapy, we often recommend aquatic therapy, which can be especially helpful for patients who need low-impact movement due to joint or spine conditions. We also discuss lifestyle modifications, stress management, and complementary therapies like acupuncture or TENS, when appropriate. Every plan is designed to reflect the unique needs and goals of each patient.

How do you decide which treatment is best for my type of pain?

It starts by listening. We take time to understand your history, symptoms, goals, and any prior treatments. A thorough physical exam and imaging review help us assess the root cause of your pain. From there, we develop a treatment plan that is safe, strategic, and focused on helping you regain control of our body and daily life.
