Q&A

At What Age Should My Child First See A Dentist?

It’s recommended that your child see the dentist when their first teeth appear, which is usually around six months to one year old. This is a time when the dentist can counsel parents about oral hygiene and answer any questions they have. I like to talk about not allowing babies to fall asleep with a bottle of milk in their mouths and not introducing juices at too early an age, since both of these habits can increase the chance of early-childhood tooth decay.

What Other Things Might You Talk To Young Parents About?

I talk to them about ways to make teething easier and counsel them about a tooth-healthy diet. We talk about ways to avoid injury to the mouth, as the baby starts to crawl and what to do, should injury to the teeth occur. We also talk about the importance of and timeline for getting off the bottle and pacifier so teeth can develop correctly.

What Insurances Do You Take?

Over the years, I’ve heard patients complain about dental practices that don’t take their insurance, causing them to pay out-of-network pricing. I’ve done what I can to get in-network with as many dental insurance companies as I can. This saves my patients time and money. We also offer an in-house payment plan and financing through a third party which requires no down payment. And we work with patients on pricing, as much as possible. I never want expense to be a barrier to optimum oral health. It’s too important.

Are There Reasons Other Than Cosmetics To Consider Braces?

Absolutely, braces are about much more than cosmetic. A balanced bite is actually more important than aesthetics, in my opinion. If your bite is unbalanced, it can wear your teeth down leading to TMJ or painful joint problems. This imbalance can make teeth super sensitive and hard to keep clean, leading to gum disease and even tooth loss. We also offer Invisalign clear aligners, for those who want the cosmetic benefits of braces without looking like they’re wearing braces.

What Technologies Have Improved The Way You Practice Dentistry?

The latest 3-D intraoral scanners allow me to take tooth impressions without bulky, gooey impression plates. These impressions are much more accurate and lead to precise, high-quality treatment. Advanced digital X-rays are more accurate than ever. I see patients from other practices with issues that went undetected even though they were seen every six months. Advanced X-rays detect these issues in earlier stages so we can treat them less aggressively.

Will You Refer Me Out To Dental Specialists?

We’ve worked hard to include everything our patients need under one roof — crowns, bridges, veneers, root canals, extractions, orthodontics, dentures, sealants, and more. Once our patients are comfortable with us, we want to offer them the care they need without the hassle of traveling to other offices. You can schedule your entire families’ cleanings at the same time or schedule treatment at the same time as your cleaning.
