For its exemplary record of leadership, service and activities that improve the school and community, the Rockwall High School Student Council has been recognized as a 2025 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) and Sweepstakes Council by the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC). This is the fourth year in a row for both awards. Only 2.3% of Texas high schools were awarded the National Gold Council of Excellence this year.

“The student council at Rockwall High School just pulled off something extraordinary,” said National Association of Secondary School Principals CEO Ronn Nozoe. “Their student-driven change has earned them national recognition as a National Gold Council of Excellence, proving that when young people are given the chance to lead, they turn their vision into real-world impact.”

RHS Student Council also served as the 24-25 TASC board of directors vice president with Max Watson as their student representative. They will continue to serve on the 25-26 board of directors as the 2026 TASC Annual Conference coordinating school with Lauren Tungcab as their student representative.

“Serving on the Texas Association of Student Councils board of directors has been an honor. Our students are learning first-hand how non-profit organizations are run while being responsible for board reports and activities that help schools from across the state,” said RHS Student Council advisor Tim Watson. “If your high school or middle school student council is not a member of TASC, you are missing out on great opportunities for your students to serve their communities and learn valuable leadership skills.”

A student council must meet various criteria to earn the National Gold Council of Excellence Award and State Sweepstakes. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, and a democratic election process, the councils must have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community.
