Q&A
Insurance Agent
How is an independent agency different?
Independent agents represent multiple companies, offering you more choices than an agency that works with only one company. This allows us to customize policies to meet your specific needs. That’s the opposite of how most insurance agencies operate. With 25 years of experience, I’ve gotten to know the best carriers in Texas and can act as your personal insurance shopper, doing the work for you. Being able to cater insurance to each customer and prioritize servicing existing clients over making sales has led to over 200 five-star Google reviews.
Why are insurance premiums going up so much?
Unfortunately, the current inflation has caused the price of everything to rise dramatically — everything from parts to construction materials to labor costs — leading to more lawsuits and increases in insurance fraud. Insurance is all about everyone sharing the risk of loss. If the insurance company pays out more in claims than it receives in premiums, rates go up. Further, premiums increase more in areas that experience higher claim frequency. For example, Denton and Collin County are often hit with large and frequent hail and windstorms, resulting in more claims which result in higher premiums for these areas. But it also increases your need for coverage of these frequently occurring incidents.
Is there a way for me to reduce my rates?
Consider increasing your deductibles on both your home and auto policies. Then, save your money for when you actually have a claim. Remove optional coverages that are optional. You should sit down with your insurance agent annually to assess your coverage and make sure it’s adequate for your needs. We are happy to review anyone’s policies and offer personalized recommendations that may mean lowering your rates. Or it may mean filling in gaps in your coverage. I personally have $2,000 auto deductibles and 2% deductibles on my home policy.
I receive flyers in the mail promising lower rates. Shouldn’t I look into these offers?
Don’t be fooled by a low-priced mailer or unsolicited quote you receive. The information on the mailer or email often fails to disclose the exclusions in the policy contract. A professional insurance agent will offer you full replacement-cost coverage on your roof and structure, which many agencies do not. Buyer beware! These proposals intentionally don’t give you all the information you need to make a savvy, informed decision. Insurance is complicated, and your home and autos are your most valuable assets. I’ve spent 25 years learning the insurance agency. I participate in continuing education every year, and I still learn new things every day.
How do I know how much insurance I need?
Peace of mind comes from knowing your home and the possessions within are protected in the event of unexpected damage or catastrophe. You also want liability insurance in case someone is injured on your property. An independent insurance agent can obtain all your pertinent information, assess your needs, and help you find the absolute best coverage for you.
