Q&A
CPA
What do I need to look for in accountants?
We feel you should be able to trust your accountant completely, so do not be afraid to get in tune with your own instincts and good judgment. If you don’t get a good feeling the first time you meet with an accountant, then you probably need to look elsewhere, because they’re someone you’re going to have a long relationship with. You won’t meet them just once and then never again. They will need to be very involved in your finances and your life to be effective, so you want to make sure you believe in them and are comfortable with them too. As CPAs, we want to be the first person our clients call when they’re thinking of making a big investment or starting a new business, to allow us to discuss pros and cons and how the decision will impact their tax liability now and in the future.
Do you work with a client’s financial advisor(s)?
Yes. We have a financial advisor here in our office that we work with to provide our clients the best possible service for them. For our clients who already have a financial advisors, we will communicate with them as needed in order to provide them with the best outcome.
Why do I need a CPA if I just want my taxes done?
It’s good to have a CPA to help you not just with taxes, but with your current and long-term goals that will affect your financial needs now and in the years ahead. The tax laws change, and we stay focused on those changes and how they will affect taxpayers. We look at our clients goals and help them plan for the future with tax strategies in mind.
How do you help new business owners with business plans?
We educate business owners about tax and compliance situations. We help our clients and explain to them what reports and forms are necessary to file to stay in compliance and good standing with federal and state authorities. We help our clients with payroll compliance and reporting. Depending on what type of business you have, we help to ensure that our clients are aware of what reporting needs to be done. Many new business owners are unaware that there are any compliance issues, and we find that they’re grateful for the guidance. Meeting those reporting obligations can ultimately help them avoid costly penalties later on.
Can you help business owners with bookkeeping?
Yes. Bookkeeping is an important aspect of a business in order to prepare a complete and accurate income tax return. We offer advice on different types of bookkeeping software and help them with making a decision that would benefit them. If our clients choose to use QuickBooks, we can provide them with training so that they can stay involved and it’s an easy transition for us as accountants to be able to help them.
