Drs. Susanne Lockhart and Christie Matter first opened their dermatology and aesthetic practice in Plano in 2004. They quickly grew from two providers to nine and added a Richardson location. Then in 2017 private equity came knocking and they felt this offered a great option to continue growing their practice and offer additional resources to their patients.
Unfortunately, this path was not what they had hoped for, and they decided to return to private practice. They reopened as Lockhart Matter Dermatology in 2022 in Prosper and then Plano and McKinney 2024. Loyal patients had to find their way back to them on their own, but once word was out, they did so in droves. The two-woman practice grew again, and they soon welcomed back prior providers, adding new, great additions.
The practice “family” to most recently return are Physician Assistant Pam Murray and Dr. Rachel Quinby-Graves, both of whom had worked with Drs. Lockhart and Matter at the previous practice for more than 13 years. Also, added to the dermatology team have been Dr. Kyle Owens and Physician Assistant Brittany Roberts. Mohs surgeons Eric Hollabaugh, MD and Aatman Shah, MD round out the professional team.
Growing Together
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind going from two providers to 10 and from one location to three in less than four years. But the team is happy to be back together practicing medicine with the patient-first philosophy they embrace. And the patients are thrilled to be back under their care. It’s no wonder this office has consistently been named patient favorites, year after year since 2004.
“We’re not really interested in growing beyond the Prosper, Plano, and McKinney locations (although we did recently expand our McKinney location adding 1,000 square feet)”, said Practice Administrator Michelle Stephens. “The three locations allow us to be conveniently located to all our former and present patients. Long-tenured staff members create continuity for patients. Many of our support teams have been with Drs. Matter and Lockhart for 10-plus years, and several for more than 15. So, patients are greeted by familiar faces like Dianne, Yvonne, Darla, Debbie, Maci, Shae, and Michelle, which reinforces the personal level of care we’re known for.”
Dermatology for the Whole Family
The Lockhart Matter team cares for patients from newborn to seniors and loves treating and getting to know multiple generations of the family. Since this is Texas and we all love having fun in the sun, one of their specialties is Mohs micrographic surgery for certain types of skin cancer.
Mohs Micrographic Surgery
Mohs surgery (also called Mohs micrographic surgery) is a highly specialized technique used to remove skin cancers. During Mohs surgery, the surgeon removes the cancer layer by layer, and each layer is immediately examined under a microscope. This allows the surgeon to see whether any cancer cells remain and only remove as much tissue as necessary. The goal is to completely remove the cancer while preserving as much healthy skin as possible. Mohs surgery is most often recommended when skin cancer appears in areas where both function and appearance are important, such as the face, ears, nose, lips, hands, feet, or genitals.
Photo Dynamic Therapy
The Lockhart Matter team also offers in-office Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for pre-cancerous treatment. PDT is a noninvasive, in office procedure that uses a photosensitizing agent (drug) and a specific light source (laser or LED) to kill cancer cells and precancerous lesions, particularly on or just under the skin. PDT treats conditions such as actinic keratosis, superficial skin cancers, and some internal cancers by producing oxygen radicals that destroy abnormal cells with minimal damage to healthy tissue. Lockhart Matter providers are eminently trained and experienced in administering PDT treatment.
Onsite Surgery Suite
Dr. Shah is a highly experienced facial surgeon who performs both functional and aesthetic facial surgeries within an onsite surgical suite at Lockhart Matter Dermatology & Aesthetic Center without general anesthesia. To keep his patients comfortable, Dr. Shah offers PRO-NOX, an FDA-cleared, patient-controlled analgesia system that delivers a 50/50 mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen so patients can manage their own pain and anxiety during in-office procedures. PRO-NOX provides relief within seconds but wears off quickly, allowing patients to remain awake, alert, and able to drive themselves home after procedures. PRO-NOX is non-narcotic, non-addictive, and acts as an alternative to stronger, longer-lasting sedation providing immediate pain relief and anxiety reduction without patients having to “go under.”
Aesthetic Center
The Aesthetic Center offers the very latest in aesthetic spa services to help you relax, rejuvenate, achieve your skin goals, and be your best self. They specialize in advanced treatments including laser skin resurfacing, microneedling, injectables, and laser rejuvenation services to enhance your natural beauty. Licensed Vocational Nurse and Aesthetician Christy Householder has been with the practice since 2007. Together with Licensed Aesthetician and Certified Laser Technician Jamee LaPoint, she also offers fillers, skin tightening, treatment for spider veins, a full menu of facials and fillers, facial peels, and laser hair removal as well as PRP for hair restoration.
