When it comes to children’s smiles, experience, compassion, and trust matter most. For more than four decades, Dr. Regina Lewis and her team at Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists have been setting the gold standard for pediatric dental care across the Houston area. Known for her gentle touch and her commitment to making dentistry a positive experience for children, Dr. Lewis has built a practice that parents confidently rely on and kids actually enjoy visiting.
“We’re not just about fixing teeth — we’re about helping children build lifelong healthy habits and confidence in caring for their smiles,” says Dr. Lewis. “When a child feels comfortable and even excited about coming to the dentist, that’s a win for everyone.”
Specialized Care from an Experienced Expert
A board certified pediatric dentist, Dr. Lewis has devoted her entire professional career to children’s dentistry. After earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in 1981, she completed a rigorous two-year pediatric residency at Texas Children’s Hospital, where she received advanced training in child psychology, growth and development, and clinical management. She became a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and has been practicing in the Houston area since 1982.
“Pediatric dentistry is about so much more than smaller instruments and tiny teeth,” she explains. “Children have unique needs — emotionally, behaviorally, and medically — and it takes additional training and a special approach to meet those needs well.”
That approach has earned Dr. Lewis and her team an ongoing reputation for excellence. She has been voted Best Pediatric Dentist in Cy-Fair and Cypress for 2025 as well as each year since 2017. She was also honored with Living Magazine’s Readers’ Choice award in 2021.
A Holistic Approach
At Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists, care goes beyond the mouth. The team takes a holistic approach, looking at how nutrition, behavior, and lifestyle influence oral health. “We know that what happens in a child’s mouth is often connected to the rest of the body,” says Dr. Lewis. “We talk with parents about healthy eating habits, proper hygiene routines, and even sleep and breathing patterns that can affect dental health.”
The result is a comprehensive care plan tailored to each child’s developmental stage and temperament. From infants just cutting their first tooth to teens preparing for braces, the office provides preventive, restorative, and emergency care — all in an environment designed for comfort and fun.
Fear-Free and Fun
Walking into one of Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists’ bright, cheerful offices feels more like entering a playroom than a clinic. Colorful décor, ceiling-mounted TVs, games, and prizes help children relax and even look forward to their visits. But the real magic happens through the team’s compassionate communication.
Dr. Lewis and her staff use a hands-on “tell, show, do” technique to help kids understand what’s happening. “We strive to eliminate fear of the unknown,” she explains. “We tell them what we’re going to do, show them how it works — often using a fun stuffed animal — and then do it gently and patiently. This builds trust and familiarity, and it turns what could be a scary experience into something positive.”
Many parents express relief after their first visit, sharing that their children left smiling instead of anxious. “Our goal is to replace fear with confidence,” says Dr. Lewis. “When a child feels proud for being brave, that confidence carries over into everything they do.”
Parents as Partners
Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists embraces a family-first philosophy, encouraging parents to be part of every step of their child’s care. Parents are always welcome in the treatment rooms and receive clear explanations about procedures, home care, and prevention. “Education is key,” Dr. Lewis emphasizes. “We want parents to leave our office fully informed about their child’s dental health and equipped with tools and knowledge to maintain it.”
All informational materials and forms are available in both English and Spanish, and many staff members are bilingual, ensuring that every family feels comfortable and understood. “Our patients are like family to us,” says Dr. Lewis. “We take time to listen to parents’ concerns, answer questions, and make sure they feel confident in every decision.”
Minimally Invasive, Pain-Free Dentistry
Dr. Lewis’ decades of experience are supported by her commitment to staying current with modern techniques and technology. Her team specializes in pain-free, minimally invasive care, using advanced materials and gentle sedation options to reduce anxiety.
“We want our patients to have the best possible experience, especially during procedures,” she explains. “From digital X-rays that minimize
radiation to modern equipment that makes treatments faster and more comfortable, we use every tool available to ensure a positive visit.”
For children who play sports, Dr. Lewis also emphasizes the importance of custom mouthguards to protect teeth and prevent injuries. “A good mouthguard can save a smile,” she says. “It’s a simple step that can make a big difference.”
A Legacy of Compassion and Excellence
Dr. Lewis’ passion for pediatric dentistry runs in the family. “I come from a long line of dentists,” she shares with a smile. “Growing up, I saw firsthand how much joy this profession brings when you help others, especially children.” That early inspiration continues to guide her today.
After more than 40 years in practice, she remains dedicated to nurturing young smiles and building lasting relationships with families. Many of her former patients now bring their own children to her care — a testament to her enduring trust and excellence. “It’s the highest compliment when parents I treated as kids return with their own little ones,” she says. “It means we’ve truly made a difference.”
Join the Family
With multiple convenient locations across the Houston area, Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists makes it easy for families to access top-quality pediatric dental care close to home. Each contemporary office provides state-of-the-art technology, a warm environment, and the friendly faces of professionals who love what they do.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that every child establish a dental home by their first birthday, and Dr. Lewis encourages parents not to wait. “Early care sets the foundation for lifelong oral health,” she says. “Even before the first tooth appears, we can help parents learn what to expect and how to care for their baby’s developing mouth.”
Whether your child is due for a first checkup or you’re looking for a trusted dental home for years to come, Dr. Regina Lewis and her compassionate team are ready to welcome you.
“At Houston Pediatric Dental Specialists, we treat every child as if they were our own,” says Dr. Lewis. “We’re honored to be part of helping them grow up healthy, happy, and smiling.”
“Pediatric dentistry is about so much more than smaller instruments and tiny teeth. Children have unique needs — emotionally, behaviorally, and medically — and it takes additional training and a special approach to meet those needs well.”
