At St. Luke’s Health-The Woodlands Hospital, patients in North Houston can receive exceptional care from world-renowned specialists — close to home.
“Our medical staff is very diverse in multispecialties, and that allows us to act as a mini medical center equipped to care for almost any patient here in The Woodlands area, short of transplants or a complicated pancreatic or liver surgery,” said Dr. Yong Choi, chief medical officer at St. Luke’s-The Woodlands.
Thanks to longstanding clinical affiliations, doctors at St. Luke’s-The Woodlands coordinate with colleagues at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital, and the NCI-designated Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center when needed —all working together to heal the patient.
“Our strong alliance with Baylor College of Medicine allows us to bring our patients a powerful network of care unlike any other,” said James Parisi, president of St. Luke’s-The Woodlands. “Patients who live in The Woodlands can be treated by Baylor specialists here, and if a higher-end specialty is indicated, they are referred to the Texas Medical Center.”
This unique depth of expertise is one reason the North Houston hospital is consistently lauded by independent reviews such as U.S. News & World Report, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Leapfrog Group.

St. Luke’s-The Woodlands was recently ranked among the top 10 in the Houston metropolitan area in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-2026 listing. The hospital also received top “High Performing” ratings for treatment of kidney failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart arrhythmia, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, pneumonia, and stroke.
“These are conditions and illnesses that can happen to any of us at any time, and when patients are admitted to St. Luke’s-The Woodlands, they can be confident that if they need to be evaluated by a specialist, we have the systems and staff in place to facilitate that,” Parisi said.
- The hospital’s cardiovascular program has earned national honors, including 10 American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® awards for its commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for treatment of heart disease and stroke. The team uses state-of-the-art
technologies to offer a high level of cardiac care from open heart surgeries to the latest in minimally invasive robotic procedures. Heart transplant patients and those in need of ventricular assist devices are referred to Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in the Texas Medical Center, with their Woodlands
physician involved in follow-up. - Patients managing a cancer diagnosis can be treated at The Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Woodlands, which offers everything a patient needs for diagnosis and individualized treatment of a wide range of cancers. For patients requiring treatment that is only available at the downtown center, the team remains closely involved so the patient may return to The Woodlands for the remainder of their treatment.
- St. Luke’s-The Woodlands’ Comprehensive Stroke Center, the first in the area, is supported by an interventional neurologist and cerebrovascular neurosurgeon from Baylor College of Medicine. An expert team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, therapists and other specialists work collaboratively
from the moment a patient arrives in the emergency room through rehabilitation. - The Weight Loss & Metabolic Center at The Woodlands is accredited under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. St. Luke’s-The Woodlands is the only hospital in North Houston to be awarded an MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications.
- St. Luke’s-The Woodlands Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) recently received the prestigious redesignation by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The Level III NICU is equipped to handle a wider range of complex neonatal conditions, including advanced respiratory support, comprehensive monitoring, a neonatal transport team, and a highly trained, specialized staff dedicated to the care of newborns.

Excellence in Orthopedics at St. Luke’s Health-Lakeside Hospital
Just a few hundred yards from The Woodlands Hospital is St. Luke’s Health-Lakeside Hospital, a 30-bed facility that has distinguished itself in orthopedics (including total joint replacement and spine care), sports medicine, and general and interventional cardiology in the North Houston community.
Lakeside was recognized as a 2025-2026 High Performing Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for back surgery. It is the only hospital in Montgomery County to offer sports medicine as a major service line.
Exceptional Patient Experience
Of all the many accolades and distinctions bestowed upon St. Luke’s-The Woodlands and Lakeside Hospital, James Parisi, hospital president, insists that the biggest differentiator is “our people.”
St. Luke’s-The Woodlands and Lakeside Hospitals are two of eight hospitals in the CommonSpirit Health network in Texas. CommonSpirit Health is the largest not-for-profit faith-based organization in the United States with a mission to “make the healing presence of God known in our world by improving the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable, while we advance social justice for all.”
Impressively, St.Luke’s-The Woodlands received some of the highest grades for patient experience among all of CommonSpirit’s 2,200 medical facilities in 24 states.
According to Parisi, CommonSpirit’s mission promotes a culture of compassion and encourages staff to feel comfortable praying with their patients when appropriate, whether it’s a physician, a nurse, or even an environmental services member.
“Not everybody gets better with just medicine. It’s really about the people who are there, the people who are listening to what their patients have to say, who are engaged, who aren’t distracted. We are set up to focus on the unique needs of the individual, and that makes it a better experience and a better outcome because we do have that compassion, that humankindness,” Parisi said.
