Whether you are seeking cosmetic refinements, veneers, implants, sedation, or a simple cleaning, when it comes to finding a dentist, options abound. What you should be looking for, however, is a dentist with a distinctive difference, which is exactly why patients seek out and keep returning to Dental Designs by Alisa Reed.

Training You Can Trust

Dr. Alisa Reed, owner and founder of Dental Designs by Alisa Reed, graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in biology and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery and completed her Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at LSU. Her desire to stay abreast of cutting-edge dental technologies is one distinguishing difference elevating Dr. Reed’s practice from others. With more than 25 years of experience in everything from preventive to cosmetic dentistry, she has studied at the prestigious Dawson Center for Comprehensive Dental Studies and regularly attends dental continuing education classes and seminars on procedures such as dental implants, Invisalign, Bioclear, Fotana laser dentistry, porcelain veneers, DURAthins, Lumineers, as well as best practices for safety and sterilization.

Dr. Reed’s partner, Dr. Stacey Smith, too, brings expertise and experience to the practice.

Dr. Smith has worked in the dental field since 2004, having received her education from Texas A&M University with a degree in biology. She earned her dental credentials from the University of Texas Health Science Center at the San Antonio Dental School. Dr. Smith went on to complete a two-year Advanced General Dentistry residency at the university. Upon completing her residency, she taught for seven years at the San Antonio Dental School, teaching both undergraduate and residents as the program director.

Your Dental Home

Another compelling difference that sets the Dental Designs experience apart from the others is the unique home quality of the office. Patients are treated like family members, even first timers. Developing patient relationships is important, as Dr. Reed and her team believe that building a foundation for oral health starts with a trusting connection.

“My patients tend to seek me out or return even when they have moved away because I and my team have their best interest first and foremost in every area of our practice,” said Dr. Reed.

They don’t “sell” treatments or use high pressure or fear tactics. If a procedure is recommended, patients view a scanner that allows them to see the condition of their mouth, tooth by tooth. Dr. Reed explains why a condition occurs, offers options to treat, and most importantly, educates the patient on how to prevent it from reoccurring.

“My patients always comment on how gentle yet thorough our hygienists are,” said Dr. Reed. “Even new patients express relief after their first cleaning at our office, how ‘it was the best cleaning they’ve ever experienced.’ I’m proud of that!!”

Patients who are particularly anxious are offered nitrous oxide, but the entire staff is intuitive with patients and alleviate their anxiety by making them feel comfortable with warm blankets, neck pillows, and more.

“We go out of their way to spoil our patients,” said Dr. Reed.

At Dental Designs, the team is aware of how busy their patients are and therefore excels at staying on schedule. Even so, patients with dental emergencies are seen same day.

Meticulous Care and Miraculous Results

Dr. Reed is known for attention to detail when it comes to oral care.

“I’m very meticulous, especially about the bite,” explained Dr. Reed. “If a person’s bite is just a little bit off, it can set off a variety of symptoms, create discomfort, and even lead to some serious issues.”

Dr. Reed has extensive training in treating occlusion, which is the relationship between the upper and lower teeth when they meet. Ideally, perfect alignment is where the upper teeth slightly overlap the lower teeth. Dr. Reed examines patients for malocclusion, or misalignment (overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite) during every exam. Proper occlusion is essential for chewing and digesting, good oral health, preventing tooth decay, avoiding jaw pain and headaches, and enhancing facial appearance. Treatment for malocclusion may include braces, clear aligners, retainers, extractions, or
dental surgery.

Another example of the meticulous care Dental Designs patients enjoy is the extra time they receive with the providers so that no one feels rushed.

“We hear our patients’ concerns,” said Dr. Reed, “and we take the time to get to know them, explain their treatments, plan for any upcoming procedures, and alleviate any stress or anxiety they may feel about being at the dentist.”

Because of the precise and professional care exacted toward each patient at Dental Designs, the results are miraculous. To achieve beautiful smiles, Dr. Reed and her team use veneers, including prepless veneers that don’t involve grinding. They also offer bonding, Invisalign, and when necessary, dental surgery.

“Dr. Smith does our surgeries and places implants,” explained Dr. Reed. “Not only does she perform amazing work, but she has taught other dentists. After graduation from dental school, she did what’s called a GPR residency at the University of Texas, San Antonio where she learned implants and then stayed on as faculty to teach and proctor for the grad students doing implants there. Because of Dr. Smith’s vast knowledge and experience, as well as her gentle touch,  most patients prefer to have their implants placed in our office.”

Dr. Reed and her staff are passionate about treating sleep apnea, which can be related to TMJ syndrome, clenching, or grinding. They screen every patient and look for indications, which include enamel wear, teeth getting shorter or chipped, gum recession, and crowding in the teeth. For patients who can’t tolerate a CPAP, Dr. Reed constructs a custom dental appliance that’s comfortable and fits neatly in the palm of your hand (perfect for traveling). She can also correct collapsing airways with NightLase laser therapy, a noninvasive procedure designed to open your airway, reduce snoring, and lower the risk of apnea by stimulating the cells in your upper airway to produce collagen, tighten the tissues, and reduce the risk of them overrelaxing during sleep.

Dr. Reed and Dr. Smith believe you deserve the best from your dental visits and will listen to your needs, offer informed options, and connect on a personal level. Her team will work with you in partnership, focusing on your long-term oral and overall health.

“My patients always comment on how gentle yet thorough our hygienists are. Even new patients express relief after their first cleaning at our office, how ‘it was the best cleaning they’ve ever experienced.’ I’m proud of that!!”
