Making the World a Better Place One Party at a Time
The late President George HW Bush once said, “There could be no definition of a successful life that does not include service to others.” Those who know and love Vida Valk know that service to others is what gets her out of bed in the morning. Whether it’s service to her husband, children, and grandchildren or service to people she’ll likely never meet, Vida has an indomitable spirit when it comes to giving of herself to make the world a better place.
For her, that “world” began in Nicaragua, where a civil war broke out when she was just a child. Her family fled to Costa Rica to escape the fighting, where Vida had to adjust to a whole new way of life. She attended elementary and high school there, married, had two amazing kids, and launched a successful career as a pharmaceutical rep for Johnson & Johnson. Life was good.
But when her marriage fell apart, Vida found herself a single mom juggling a demanding career. Although they were challenging years, they were years that taught her fortitude and determination and how to stand up for those who need her. Eventually, she met and fell in love with an American man and her next adventure began.
The two of them married and moved to the U.S. — to Rockwall — and Vida found herself adapting yet again, even learning to speak, read, and write a whole new language in her 30s. The family was blessed with another child, a boy, and Vida was determined to become fluent in the language her children would be speaking at school. She began classes at the local library.
Before she knew it, she was serving on the PTA board at her kids’ school and the interactions she had there proved to be as good for honing her English skills as any formal lessons. When her daughter joined the orchestra and they needed volunteers, Vida’s hand went up. And so began a life of volunteerism and philanthropy that has impacted the lives of thousands.
The list of philanthropic organizations that soon came to depend on Vida’s seemingly unquenchable energy is long — and still growing. She’s a longtime volunteer and supporter of Helping Hands, a Rotary Club member, and an active member of Friends of the Rockwall Library.
She served on the board of Rockwall Women’s League from 2016 to 2023, where she chaired the ball in 2022, lead the community service arm of the organization in 2023, chaired the Big Hat Luncheon in 2024, and this year hopped on the ball advisory committee board. She’s a longtime board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Rockwall County, where she chaired a highly successful gala ball in 2018 and 2019.
Her heart for children led her to Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County (CACRC) where she’s been a guardian angel for five years, helping Rockwall County children on their path to hope and healing. She’s also served on the board for Empower 7, a nonprofit that provides a residential community for at-risk youth, offering family-style homes and supervised independent living, even starting their fundraising 5K run that has raised tens of thousands for the organization. And as her kids got older, Vida got involved with Young Men’s Service League with her son, Ronnie.
As anyone can tell you who’s organized charity functions, the longer you do it, the more tips and tricks you learn for pulling off a successful fundraiser. You learn who you can depend on to do the heavy lifting and who has a heart for giving and will show up for you every time. But as Vida organized event after event, one thing bothered her. It was the amount of the budget that was gobbled up by renting all the accoutrements necessary to pull off a glamorous fundraising event.
She got creative, trying to pare down the items she needed, DIYing where she could, borrowing from friends and family, offering sponsorship opportunities to the party rental companies, and tirelessly negotiating on behalf of her beloved charities. Then, she got serious and decided if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.
Double V Party & Event Rental was born. It’s the newest place to rent tables, chairs, tents, décor, and more with a curated collection of everything you need for intimate gatherings and grand celebrations. But you get much more than that. You get Vida’s decades of experience and all the lessons she’s learned — the dos and the don’ts — from organizing and hosting successful events. The business is still evolving, and Vida is eager to hear from her customers what she can do to better meet their needs.

The Woman Behind the Party
When not busy raising awareness and funds for her many pet organizations, Vida is all about family, spending as much quality time with her husband, kids, and grandkids as she can, often at their vacation homes in Arizona and Longview. She loves to run, loves time with the family’s four dogs, and just finished her first triathlon (after completing more half, full, and ultra marathons than she can count). And she’s not done paying it forward, always looking for the next nonprofit that needs her formidable skills and tenacity.
