Q&A

Hormone Therapy

What exactly is Bio-Identical hormone therapy, and who is it for?

Bio-Identical hormones are structurally identical to the hormones naturally produced by the human body. That’s why they tend to work better and more safely for many patients. I became passionate about this after my wife, Jan, had a hysterectomy/oophorectomy at age 28. She experienced serious health issues, including immune dysfunction and brain fog, and traditional hormone treatments didn’t help. Upon our development of transdermal estradiol gel for her, everything changed. That experience opened my eyes and changed the course of my career. Over the years, I’ve studied extensively and developed personalized therapies that now help both women and men. My motivation has always been the same: to help people live better, healthier lives.

What are the myths and facts concerning the safety and usefulness of Bio-Identical hormone therapy?

A flawed study from 2002 triggered “hormone hysteria”, claiming hormone therapy caused breast cancer and posed other risks. Continuous data collection from this and other studies have shown the opposite. Women using hormone therapy had lower risks of breast cancer, dementia, heart disease, osteoporosis, and depression. They had better skin, muscle retention, and hair health. Hormones are about much more than menopause — they’re vital to how we age, feel, and function.

How can someone tell if they need Bio-Identical hormone therapy?

Most women have lost about 80% of their progesterone by age 40. Symptoms like heavier periods, poor sleep, PMS mood swings, weight gain, or brain fog often point to hormone imbalance. For men, hormone decline often shows up as low libido, fatigue, muscle loss, or “flat” mood and foggy brain. Hormone therapy can help people feel like themselves again. Starting earlier, before female menopause or men’s hormone decline, can dramatically improve long-term health outcomes.

How quickly do people start feeling better after treatment?

Within one to two weeks, many patients feel a noticeable difference. They’ll say, “Wow, I feel alive again.” Hormones affect far more than sex drive. They influence mood, mental clarity, immune function, heart health, and circulation. Once your levels are balanced, you often feel like your old self. Some ask if they can stop. I say, “Sure, if you want to feel bad again.” It’s not about dependence; it’s about support. My wife even continued hormone therapy during breast cancer treatment, with her doctor’s blessing. She knew the benefits were too valuable to give up.  Top researchers are quoted as saying, “the last day a woman takes a breath should be the last day she takes her hormones.”

How does working with a compounding pharmacy like Las Colinas improve results?

We practice precision medicine — tailored treatment plans based on lab work, history, and symptoms. I personally consult with patients using our integrative medicine software to investigate cases, then partner with trusted physicians, PAs, and NPs. We also focus heavily on quality. For example, we test our compounds at analytical labs for potency and purity. We also purchase hormones with the smallest particle size to improve absorption and efficacy. My team is trained, tested, and held to the highest standards. When it comes to hormone therapy, precision and quality are everything.
