At The Talking Place, Drs. Liz Ener and Brittany Wilson are driven by a shared vision rooted in friendship and a deep commitment to supporting families. Their journey began at the University of North Texas, where they bonded over their dream of creating a space dedicated to helping children and families navigate life’s challenges.
Reflecting on their philosophy, Dr. Ener shared, “We understand that each child and family comes with unique needs and challenges. Our approach to counseling is highly personalized, tailored specifically to address the challenges and goals of each individual client.” Through ongoing dialogue with families, The Talking Place counselors collaboratively develop a plan that suits the preferences, strengths, and areas for growth of each of the children and families they work with. By customizing their approach, they seek to ensure that each person receives the support and guidance they need to thrive and manage their challenges.
As an integral aspect of counseling services at The Talking Place, parental involvement is prioritized at every step. Dr. Ener explains, “Progress is often faster and more sustainable when families are actively involved and working towards the same goals.” Counselors at The Talking Place regularly meet with parents to equip them with the tools and knowledge to support their child’s well-being beyond their counseling sessions. These consultations serve as platforms for open dialogue, intricate problem-solving, and continuous communication aimed at empowering parents with support and readiness across their counseling experience.
Tailored Services for Diverse Needs
The Talking Place counselors understand that today’s families face numerous challenges. “We’ve seen recent increases in anxiety and depression, impulsivity, learning challenges, family conflict, and peer-related stressors. These challenges underscore the importance of targeting client’s unique needs, enhancing resilience, and promoting overall well-being — all tenets of our approach here at The
Talking Place.”
The practice provides a diverse array of services designed to address these challenges. From play/activity therapy and family counseling to parenting support, school advocacy assistance, diagnostic evaluations, and the unique inclusion of animal-assisted therapy (AAT), The Talking Place caters to a wide spectrum of needs. Play and activity therapies offer developmentally appropriate mediums for managing ongoing stressors and concerns. Customized comprehensive evaluations address concerns such as attention-deficit-related struggles, learning challenges, and college and career readiness. While Herbert, a certified AAT-approved Miniature Bernedoodle, helps provide comfort and emotional support to kids and teens during sessions.
For parents navigating difficulties at home, Dr. Ener advises, “Seek timely intervention. Children go through phases, but if challenges persist, professional guidance can make a significant difference.” She adds that addressing issues early leads to more effective outcomes and supports the family’s overall well-being.
Collectively, The Talking Place staff are more than just counselors — they are advocates for hope and resilience in the lives of the children and families they serve. Learn more and schedule a consultation at TheTalkingPlaceTX.com.
