If your child or teen is struggling with mental health issues, Mindful Health is here to help. This outpatient mental health clinic offers a comprehensive range of services in a warm, child-friendly environment. From intensive day programs to one-on-one therapy sessions, Mindful Health provides intentionally different behavioral health care, connecting with the whole person, both mind and body.

Mindful Health also incorporates innovative practices such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness exercises into treatment plans. “We want to empower children and adolescents to manage their own symptoms proactively,” says Dr. Burgos, a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. “Medication is our last resort when other methods have not worked.”

At Mindful Health’s Rockwall location, Dr. Burgos leads the charge alongside Nurse Practitioner Jennifer Hupp, APRN-CNP, PMHNP-BC. Together, they offer a full spectrum of outpatient mental health services that address both immediate and long-term needs.

Mindful Health serves children and teens ages four to 18 with both in-person and online sessions. If your family needs help getting to appointments, Mindful Health can also provide monitored transportation services to group programming sessions.

One of Mindful Health’s standout features is its intensive day programs, which include Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). These programs are designed for kids and teens who need more intensive support but are not in immediate crisis.

“Our PHP runs Monday through Friday and includes academic support from a Texas certified teacher. This way, students can stay on track with their education while receiving continuous therapy,” Dr. Burgos says. “The program also includes social skills groups and ongoing therapy for anxiety, depression, and more.”

If your child needs less intensive care, the IOP provides half-day sessions and focuses on stepping down from more intense treatment as patients improve.

Parents Play a Vital Role

If you notice signs that your child might need psychiatric help, like changes in behavior, withdrawal from social activities, or disruptions in sleep and appetite, don’t wait to reach out for help. “It’s important for parents to be observant and seek help when they notice something is off,” says Dr. Burgos. “Parents are the most important figures in their child’s life. They are an active part of the treatment team.”

Mindful Health involves families in therapy and addresses any dynamics within the family system that may contribute to the child’s mental health challenges. Beyond therapy sessions, Dr. Burgos encourages parents to model healthy mental health practices at home. “If parents are open about managing their own mental health,” he says, “it normalizes the experience for their children.”
