In the future, if AI has taken over,
all the cars and trucks could drive and maintain themselves. In
this future, imagine that the robots like us and are our allies.
Self-cleaning, they prefer a beautiful appearance.
Would an AI
car get a paint job or a wrap? If it got a wrap, only the absolute best would
do. No bubbles or rough edges. It knows humans love car culture, which
matters because these AI machines are friendly to the species which created
it.
The car drives down to Wrap Garage, where the
team is fast and has 16 years of service to individuals, schools, and small
and large businesses across America. (Note: In the future, the garage will
have many more years of service under its belt.) The car asks for a metallic
wrap, and it’s done in no time. With films in metallic, matte, gloss, brush,
aluminum, carbon fiber, satin, and “flip” psychedelic, the options are
tailored and creative.
Wrap
Garage gets down to the details to make sure the job is perfect and never
skips the basics. When owner Jeff Chambliss talks about how to prepare a car
for a wrap job, he says the word “clean” about seven times in a row. He’s
clear on this point. The car must be in top shape before any job
begins.
With a
wash-bay right outside, it’s easy and crucial to cleanse a car’s exterior,
even if it comes in looking tidy, he explains. The car is not washed at
Wraps, but it is detailed and dried quickly.
“We have air guns to get into all the creases
and blow all the water out to prep the car,” says Chambliss. For AI, would
this feel a bit like a dog getting a bath?
Imagine
a separate vehicle, a vintage retrofitted smart minivan. Its AI has a sense
of revivalist style, and it requests a psychedelic color-changing wrap. Wrap
Garage makes that dream come true. Color-change material “flips” in color to
anyone looking at the van as it cruises down the highway.
“I’ve never
seen anybody else print on a psychedelic flip,” said Chambliss. “Being unique
is one thing I try to push the level on. Our motto is: simply different. We
never get stale.”
Expertise
and technical know-how overflows
at Wraps so the AI would leave it to the pros. Vehicles are gingerly
broken down and taken apart by
experienced automotive
technicians, wrapped, then put back together.
Not every
wrapped car can be a G Wagon like the one on Wrap Garages’ website, but every
car can have a seamless finish.
“Right now, in my shop, I have a Lamborghini,
a Jeep color-change, an airstream for Teva, a Milestone electric, a box truck
for Bacon Plumbing, and a trailer,” said Chambliss. Three of those vehicles
run on behalf of commercial enterprises across Texas, and Wrap Garage takes
their services around the country.
Masters
at diverse wrap applications, the team flew to 41 states to add customized
surface coverings as motivation walls for a major communications company
client beginning in 2009. The job started small with a planner who came in
after struggling to find a cloth-adhering wrap elsewhere. Wraps Garage not
only solved her problem, but they also earned return business from a
satisfied customer that took them to jobs far outside their Texas home
base.
Flying to each destination after mailing the
stickers there, Chambliss and his team got their first dip into major
corporate work, but not their last. Major streaming video providers and
multinational entertainment corporations enlist Wraps regularly. Everyone
from major mobile phone companies to beloved sparkling water brands rely on
Wrap Garage for outstanding service. Make that AT&T, Netflix, Disney,
Topo Chico, and Nintendo’s Game Truck to name a few of the most well-known
brands. Locally, the trains with Denton County Transportation were wrapped
too.
“They used to get the trains painted and it
would cost like $40,000, but they would fade in around a year and a half. We
wrapped their trains and they have been running them for years now, looking
great,” said Chambliss.
A graduate of The Art Institute of Dallas,
Chambliss thinks of his shop as almost an advertising agency because of their
fantastic in-house design team and five in-house printers. He owns Wraps
alongside his business partner, Brad Ivey.
“I fell in love with the business when I was
in school for merchandising. I was like, ‘I can sit here and design and print
huge panels and put them on cars?’ I turned down a lot of money to keep at
it,” he explained. The job was fun, and Chambliss brings that joy to work to
create a great product and thriving business.
Any client can walk out with an attractive
wrap design, even if they walk in with just a raw idea for basic text with
their own phone number and company name. Wrap Garage can design a logo from
scratch.
Protecting the paint beneath the sticker, Wrap
Garage is 3M certified to use the best materials that act a little like a
turtle shell for your car. Depending on the project, the best wrap could also
have mind-bending tensile strength.
“The 3M 480 material stretches 150% per inch
so you can wrap brick, stone, marble, or wood and it will hold down to the
creases and it will not lift,” explained Chambliss.
With that kind of strength, Wrap Garage can
create a wrap for your outdoor and indoor walls, almost no matter what
they’re made of. The wraps can also create a texture to resemble stone,
brick, and even marble. Schools and businesses like to get in on the action
and use the wraps to create a productive environment and instill client
confidence.
In the future, there are holographic wraps
for cars, which Wrap Garage will be the first one to create
too.
