Sometimes, we all just need a little help. Whether it’s a child experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety, a teen exhibiting unwanted behavior, or an adult who may be struggling with a difficult transition, the experts at The Talking Place are here to provide that help.
Dr. Brittany Wilson and Dr. Liz Ener founded The Talking Place in 2017. The two met while earning their doctoral degrees in counseling at the University of North Texas.
“We’ve always had a heart for helping kids and families. I’m so proud of us starting our own practice,” Dr. Ener says. “I feel so honored to see kids reach their goals and to help families overcome their struggles. It’s rewarding when everyone is in a really good place.”
The Talking Place works with children and adolescents through play and activity therapies to help them manage emotional struggles and thrive personally, emotionally, and academically. The practice also works with adults in individual therapy to help them overcome life’s challenges.
“I find it incredibly fulfilling to be able to be part of my clients’ struggles,” Dr. Ener says. “It’s an honor when they allow us to see parts of themselves they don’t want to show other people. There’s something sacred in that.”
Parents and Children: Hand in Hand
Parental involvement is one aspect that sets The Talking Place apart from other practices. “Many places don’t involve parents,” Dr. Ener says. “Here, we work to equip and empower parents. We provide therapeutic parenting support to strengthen the parent-child relationship and to help children thrive in the home setting.”
Dr. Wilson says parents often don’t know when their child needs counseling. While the answer is variable, she recommends calling for a consultation if your child is struggling for more than a month.
The Talking Place has made a huge impact on families throughout the Metroplex. One client proclaims, “Our son has been seeing Dr. Ener and is a totally new kid. He is confident, talks to others, participates in sports and school, sleeps all night long, and so much more. I cannot rave enough about the process and how much it has helped our son.” Another says, “The Talking Place has been such an amazing place for us. My daughter has been seeing Dr. Wilson for almost four years, and it has been nothing short of life-changing.”
Drs. Wilson and Ener find joy in walking alongside their clients as they journey toward growth and healing. “I love it when kids say, ‘This is my favorite place! This is where I can be me.’ It’s a real honor and privilege to work with them,” Dr. Ener says.
