As a young man, Talon Davis had his eye on a career in psychiatry (which may or may not have been influenced by hours bingeing episodes of Frasier). In the end, he found purpose and fulfillment in the field of family dentistry. Happily for him—and for his patients— keen interest in human behavior comes into play every day in his practice, South Arlington Smiles.

“As it turns out, dentists serve as therapists a significant portion of the time,” he said. “We live with our patients through their struggles and victories, all the while supporting them in any way we can. We see patients of all ages and the relationships we forge are the best part of our jobs.”

In service to those patients, Dr. Davis strives to make his practice a one-stop-shop for all their dental needs. “While we do our share of fillings and crowns, what we truly enjoy is more specialized procedures,” Dr. Davis said. Toward that end, he’s completed hundreds of hours of continuing-education classes to increase his skillset and has invested in the latest, cutting-edge dental technology.

“We rarely have to refer procedures and if patients do need to see a specialist, we often have them come into the office to get the work done here,” Dr. Davis said. “We’re also able to make dentistry supremely comfortable while keeping costs low. We recently bought the equipment to provide same day crowns for our patients and that’s been a massive success.”

For Dr. Davis, dentistry is all about service to others. “My grandmother instilled a strong work ethic in me and made it clear that what we do, we do in service to the people in our lives,” he said. “She taught me that being true in what you do allows you to accept the outcomes life delivers. Dentistry has allowed me to serve my patients well while still being available to my family.”

Meet Dr. Davis

Originally from Edmond, Oklahoma, Talon Davis grew up playing the double bass in symphony orchestras, staying active in his church choir, and working in his family music studio. He completed two degrees in music performance and performed with major symphonies in the DFW area for years, before hearing a call to serve through dentistry. When not on the job, he still loves playing his double bass. He and his wife, Kristin, an orchestra director for Arlington ISD, have a beautiful three-year-old daughter that’s the light of their lives.

Dr. Davis regularly volunteers at Mission Arlington providing dental services to the underserved and has set a goal this year for South Arlington Smiles to provide $50,000 in dental care to underserved communities throughout Arlington, Grand Prairie, and Mansfield. He’s a big supporter of local school and health fairs where he offers dental health education. And when time allows, he enjoys getting in as much golf and Sooner football as he can.

“We rarely have to refer procedures and if patients do need to see a specialist, we often have them come into the office to get the work done here. We’re also able to make dentistry supremely comfortable while keeping costs low. We recently bought the equipment to provide same day crowns for our patients and that’s been a massive success.”
