Marci B. Martinez, a founding member of Martinez Legal P.C., always knew she wanted to pursue a career helping people. She first aspired to become a doctor but realized blood made her a bit too squeamish for that. It turns out one of her favorite TV shows, “Ally McBeal,” inspired her to become a lawyer herself. “The show definitely glamorized law,” she says, smiling, “but I also got to see how lawyers can give people a voice.”
Ms. Martinez earned her bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Arizona State University and went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University in 2005. She quickly made a name for herself at various law firms, successfully representing business owners, builders, subcontractors, and other individuals in Texas state court. She started practicing family law in 2011 and in 2017, Ms. Martinez took a leap of faith and opened her own legal firm.
Today, Martinez Legal P.C. is a thriving law practice focusing on estate planning and family law with locations in Denton and Decatur. Ms. Martinez and her team work with clients regarding their legal needs, handling cases involving divorce, custody, estate planning, adoptions, premarital agreements, and private mediation. She also has a heart for representing children in CPS cases.
She finds joy in being there for people through some of life’s most trying times. “When I was a kid, nobody was an advocate for me. It’s rewarding to now be an advocate for children and let them know someone is on their side,” Ms. Martinez says. “Family law is emotional. When I can come alongside people emotionally and give them a voice, it’s a great feeling.”
Compassion is a big differentiator at Martinez Legal P.C. “We don’t look at people as a problem or bottom line,” she says. “We see them as people and treat them that way.” The entire team at Martinez Legal aways embodies their philosophy of “lawyering with heart.”
This caring approach carries over into how Ms. Martinez runs her law firm and inspires her team. “We’re a team of all women. We’re all very strong in our faith and lift each other up that way,” she says. “Also, we prioritize family and each other.”
As a mom to five daughters, Ms. Martinez understands the importance of flexibility. That’s a big reason she started her own practice — to have the freedom of a more flexible schedule. This allows her to bring her best self to work while also showing up in the best way for her family.
Outside of work, Ms. Martinez enjoys traveling, photography and spending time in nature. She especially loves hiking, swimming, boating, and camping with her husband and children. The Martinez Legal team has actively been involved in Denton County Adoption Day, a program that brings children to their forever homes, as a volunteer or sponsor since 2017.
