As the sole practitioner and owner of Smile Studio Orthodontics, Dr. Khan is personally invested in every patient’s care. He takes the time to explain multiple treatment options, ensuring patients feel informed, comfortable, and at home throughout their experience.

Braces or Invisalign: Dentist vs. Orthodontist – What’s the Difference?

While general dentists can offer braces or Invisalign, orthodontists undergo three additional years of specialized education and fellowship training beyond dental school. This advanced training makes orthodontists experts in tooth alignment and bite correction, ensuring superior results. For the best outcome, it’s essential to seek care from private orthodontic practitioners who specialize exclusively in orthodontics and are available full time in their practice. As a fellowship-trained, AAO-accredited orthodontist, Dr. Khan brings unparalleled expertise to each patient’s care.

Why Are Straight Teeth and an Aligned Bite Important?

Misaligned teeth or bite issues can lead to uneven wear, make dental hygiene more challenging, and increase the risk of plaque buildup, cavities, gum disease, and headaches. These problems may eventually cause premature bone, tissue, and tooth loss. Proper alignment prevents damage, ensures food is chewed thoroughly for better digestion, and promotes overall wellness. Beyond health benefits, a straight smile enhances appearance and boosts self-confidence.

When Should My Child See an Orthodontist?

Contrary to popular belief, you shouldn’t wait for all baby teeth to fall out before seeing an orthodontist. Some bite problems, like severe crowding, airway issues, underbites, and crossbites, are best corrected at ages 7 or 8. Expanders, in particular, are most effective during early childhood. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an evaluation by age 7. No referral is needed, so don’t wait for your dentist to suggest it. At this stage, Dr. Khan will take X-rays to assess how permanent teeth are developing and track growth. If immediate treatment isn’t necessary, Dr. Khan may suggest waiting until ages 11-12 when the last baby teeth fall out — ensuring that a key growth window isn’t missed.

What Is the Best Treatment Option?

Dr. Khan helps patients and parents choose the right treatment based on individual needs and preferences. Invisalign is a clear, convenient option, but traditional braces may be more effective for complex cases. Treatment length varies depending on the patient’s specific alignment needs, so a comprehensive evaluation is essential. Remember, Invisalign is simply a tool — what truly matters is the skill of the practitioner using it. No two doctors deliver identical results, so it’s important to choose an experienced orthodontist for optimal outcomes.

Is It Ever Too Late for a Beautiful Smile?

Orthodontic treatment isn’t just for children — it’s never too late to improve your smile. With today’s advanced options, more adults are seeking orthodontic care, and according to the American Association of Orthodontists, 25% of orthodontic patients are adults. At Smile Studio Orthodontics, Dr. Khan treats both children and adults, ensuring everyone can enjoy the benefits of a confident, healthy smile.
