Every week, Pastor John Meador meets new people who are visiting Cross City Church. In fact, it’s one of his favorite parts of the week. “After the 11 AM Sunday morning service, we have a guest reception where I’m able to chat with visiting families about what they’re looking for and how we as a church can meet them where they are,” he said. “The first thing I want them to know is that at Cross City, we love God, Scripture, and people.”
Many of those families come to Cross City feeling disenfranchised and disillusioned by the idea of church. “People are looking for authenticity,” Pastor John said. “We want them to know what we’re here for, which is to love God with passion and devotion, to serve Him, and to worship Him. I hope they can already see that during their time with us.”
The next thing Pastor John wants them to know is the Cross City family believes strongly in the truth of 2 Timothy 3:16-17 which says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
“This is a group of people who love Scripture,” Pastor John said. “We don’t just pay lip service to it. We walk through it, verse by verse. Our love of Scripture is contagious because people see first-hand how biblical truth changes their lives. And people are looking for churches that love them. This is a place where you won’t be judged regardless of who you are or what you’ve done. We will love you no matter what.”
The people of Cross City are known for loving others. Pastor John experienced that unconditional love 18 years ago when Cross City Church called him to be their pastor, despite his 95% hearing loss. A deaf pastor leading a thriving church might seem crazy, but over the past 18 years, the Lord has blessed that decision and grown the 120-year-old Cross City Church into a dynamic intergenerational and multi-ethnic community of believers where all are welcome and the goal in everything they do is to glorify God and help real people find real hope and experience real life in Christ.
So that everyone can experience how much the people of Cross City truly care, Pastor John invites them to go deeper and join a small group. “Small groups, which we call Connection groups, are where relationships form,” he said. “There are groups for every age and stage of life. God created us to be in relationship with other believers. In John 13:34-35, Jesus said ‘A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.’ Small groups are where that love develops.”
We’re living in the most connected time in human history, yet more and more people report feeling lonely and isolated. It’s for that reason, the Cross City family emphasizes real relationships that are authentic, honest, and genuine. “We know we’re not perfect, and we don’t expect anyone else to be,” Pastor John said. “We live, we learn from each other, and we pursue the real life Christ offers.”
At Cross City, people are encouraged to do more than just attend services. They have the opportunity to connect with others and can form real, authentic bonds with those who are going through exactly what they are. Cross City is an active church during the week—not just on weekends—with adults meeting up in the coffee shop and kids enjoying the play area. Small groups are meeting and there’s a class or group for everyone including Divorce Care, Grief Share, Financial Peace University, and Bible studies—called “Equip”—to help every age and every stage take that next step in their journey with Christ. There’s a class, group, or mentor waiting to help you move forward, whether you’ve been following Jesus for five days or 50 years.
For more than 120 years, Cross City has been caring for people in the heart of DFW, bringing real hope and real life to real people. As this area has expanded, that focus hasn’t changed. There’s a place for your family at Cross City Church. Find out more at CrossCity.Church.
