Janine Hopkins is wondering where the years have gone. How can it be 30 years since she opened her first dermatology practice? For her, those years have come in the form of relationships forged with loyal patients and outstanding staff, three decades of learning and applying the things she’s learned, speaking and educating others in her field, and even creating and patenting a proprietary dermatology device.

After graduating with her dermatology degree in 1996, Dr. Hopkins opened her first dermatology practice in Monroe, Louisiana, with just one nurse and one front-office employee. She opened an additional office in Southlake in 2021 and now has up to 30 employees between the two locations. Last year, she expanded her wellness offerings by welcoming Dr. Douglas Farris to the Southlake office, a highly experienced local dermatologist with a master’s degree in nutrition and a residency in internal medicine.

“I’m grateful and humbled by all God has entrusted us with,” Dr. Hopkins said. “One of my favorite aspects of my career is that it requires me to be a lifelong learner. Dermatology — and all of medicine — is advancing so rapidly that I’ve spent hundreds of hours learning about new and better techniques and technology.” And she’s been called upon to share what she knows with her colleagues around the world.

Help with Sun Damage

One of Dr. Hopkins’ newer offerings is The Melanage Peel. “In the South, we’re all exposed to sun and sun damage,” she said. “Melanage is a painless procedure that allows me to clean up and remove sun damage and excess pigment.” This medium-depth chemical peel is designed to treat stubborn hyperpigmentation, specifically melasma, sun damage, and acne scarring.

Melanage combines an in-office masque application with an at-home regimen, allowing Dr. Hopkins to produce significant, lasting skin brightening, improved texture, and reduced fine lines within five to seven days. “With only seven to 10 days of cell turnover and skin peeling, years of sun damage and stubborn melasma can be improved,” she said.

InstaMed’s Oral Dissolving Strips

Dr. Hopkins now offers InstaMed’s oral dissolving strips, thin, orally dissolving films designed to deliver therapeutic peptides directly into the bloodstream through the buccal mucosa (mouth tissue). This allows Dr. Hopkins to offer a painless, needle-free alternative to injections, providing rapid absorption for energy, repair, and wellness. Because they’re absorbed through the cheek, compounds can enter the bloodstream directly, bypassing the digestive system for improved efficiency.

Hair Regrowth in Men and Women

Dr. Hopkins is also helping men and women — of all ages — regrow hair with dedicated microneedling combined with topical exosomes applied using her patented CuraCator technique. “And because each patient is unique, we use a Fagron TrichoTest to analyze each patient’s gene variations and lifestyle factors and personalize their hair-loss treatment,” she said. Fagron TrichoTest is a non-invasive, one-time genetic saliva test that analyzes 48 genetic variations across 13-23 genes to personalize hair loss (alopecia) treatment for men and women. By combining DNA analysis with lifestyle factors, it identifies the most effective, customized, and evidence-based therapeutic options and targets treatment specifically for each patient.

Advanced Skin Cancer Therapy

Receiving a skin cancer diagnosis can feel devastating. Fortunately, advancements in medical technology have made treatment options more effective and more comfortable than ever. Dr. Hopkins has invested in Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy (IGSRT) technology to offer advanced non-surgical treatment for non-melanoma skin cancer, especially for patients who aren’t ideal surgical candidates or prefer a non-invasive, non-surgical approach. “Using high-resolution ultrasound, I can precisely map and treat the cancer while preserving surrounding healthy tissue,” Dr. Hopkins said. “With over 1,100 skin cancers treated successfully in my practices, IGSRT has changed the landscape of care for my patients. It’s ideal for delicate areas like the face, legs, or for those on blood thinners or with multiple lesions.”

As one of only 2% of dermatologists in the U.S. offering this treatment, Dr. Hopkins has lectured at international medical meetings educating other physicians on this technology. She also serves on a guidelines-of-care committee with other dermatologists, oncologists, and radiation oncologists educating other medical professionals on best practice and best outcomes for patients.

Leading the Way in Laser Technology

Over the past 30 years, Dr. Hopkins has pioneered many techniques and technologies, including innovative laser technology which allows her to rejuvenate patients’ skin customized to their specific skin type, concerns, and downtime tolerance. “I’m able to combine fractionated resurfacing, collagen-stimulating lasers, and gentle toning options to create safe, effective treatment plans focusing on skin health, not just surface results, leading to longer-lasting, natural-looking rejuvenation,” Dr. Hopkins said.

Help with Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence can be embarrassing and life-disrupting, but it’s also highly treatable. Dr. Hopkins has had phenomenal success using StarFormer high-intensity magnetic stimulation to stimulate the pelvic floor and treat all types of male or female urinary incontinence as well as using it to strengthen muscles of the back to strengthen the all-important core.

“The patient sits fully dressed in the StarFormer chair for 20 to 30 minutes while the magnetic applicators in the chair stimulate muscle contraction in their entire pelvic floor, leading to increased muscle strength resulting in effective relief of uncontrolled urine flow,”
Dr. Hopkins said.

She also uses StarFormer to target multiple muscle groups simultaneously including inner thighs, abs, and other areas making it a non-invasive method for boosting muscle strength and improving overall body tone to enhance your workout routine, recover postpartum, or rehabilitate after an injury.

“StarFormer is gentle, fast, painless, and completely non-invasive with no known side effects,” Dr. Hopkins said. “The magnetic pulses harmlessly pass through your clothing, skin, and bone, reaching otherwise inaccessible tissue. And because skin laxity is often caused by lack of muscle tone, it can successfully tighten skin as well.”
