Travel can change a person. It’s one of the benefits of visiting new places and encountering new cultures. For 15-year-old Shanae Lowrance the fact that travel meant accompanying her father, Dr. Stan Lowrance, on a dental mission trip completely changed the trajectory of her life. Watching men, women, and children come to her dad in pain and seeing him patiently and tenderly relieve that pain was a pivotal moment for Shanae. After mission trips to Mexico and Zambia, she knew she wanted to offer that same compassionate care, not only abroad but back home in Rockwall, Texas.

Shanae completed her undergraduate studies at Tarleton State University on a basketball scholarship and earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical science. During that time, she took any opportunity to work alongside her dad, gaining practical knowledge and hands-on experience. This foundation served her well at Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry. Upon graduation, she joined Lowrance Dental where she brought a female perspective to the practice.

New Smile New You

“One of my greatest joys is giving someone a smile they can be proud of,” Dr. Shanae said. “I meet patients who have avoided smiling for years, because they feel bad about the appearance of their teeth. Giving them a new, beautiful smile doesn’t just affect their ability to eat, it boosts their self-confidence which can positively affect their career and even personal life. It’s one of my favorite things to do.” Lowrance Dental offers a full menu of cosmetic dentistry including teeth whitening, implant bridges, all-ceramic crowns, bonding, veneers, tooth reshaping, and even full-mouth makeovers.

In fact, Lowrance Dental just received the 2025 Living Magazine Top Cosmetic Dentist award. “We’re able to use technology like the iTero scanner to evaluate a patient’s mouth structure,” Dr. Shanae said. “Not only can we tailor veneers, bonding, and whitening to their specific face structure, but we can mockup a smile they can try on in the office to see exactly how the end result will look.” For Dr. Shanae, the goal is to create a natural-looking result that complements their face.

Benefits of the Dental Laser

Dr. Shanae admits to being a bit of a geek when it comes to new dental technology. “My dad and I actually share a passion for technology,” she said. “When I find something I feel will make treatment gentler or more precise for our patients, we invest in it.”

Their newest acquisition is a diode dental laser which will allow for less invasive — but highly accurate — treatment. “This laser can be used for relieving TMJ pain, cold sores, gummy smiles, and other oral pain,” Dr. Shanae said. Lasers can also reduce the need for stitches, minimize bleeding and swelling, allow for faster healing times, and reduce the risk of infection.

Importance of Oral Health

Dr. Shanae is passionate about educating her patients on the link between oral health and the health of the rest of the body. “The more we can educate our patients about caring for their teeth and gums and resolving the root cause of their dental issues, the better able they are to maintain good oral health for life,” she said. “That’s even more important now that science has linked gum disease to health problems throughout the body including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, respiratory diseases like pneumonia, Alzheimer’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and certain types of cancer.”

Lowrance Dental can treat a multitude of dental issues including chips, cracks, thinning enamel, bite misalignments, missing teeth and tooth crowding with crowns, veneers, or bonding, Invisalign, or implants. Some of these treatments not only protect teeth from further damage and restore vital missing structures, but they can make teeth easier to brush and floss leading to improved oral health and subsequently, improved overall health. “We also find that when a patient invests in their smile, they often make a stronger commitment to their oral hygiene to help keep that smile that they love” she said.

When not on the job, Dr. Shanae is enjoying life as a new mom to a seven-month-old baby girl. “She’s changed everything,” she said. “As much as I love my job, I also can’t wait to get home to her each night.” Dr. Shanae and her husband operate a small cattle ranch and are long-time members of Lake Pointe Church where she enjoys working in the children’s ministry.

“I’ve always considered myself a serial crafter,” she said. “I’ve tried my hand at stained glass, candle making, macramé, and embroidery but you can almost always find me in the kitchen baking. My love language is acts of service. I love creating something with my hands then giving it to someone else to enjoy.”

Dentistry has been the perfect career for Dr. Shanae. “I’m a people person and grateful for a job where I can interact with patients, really get to know them, and care for their needs,” she said. “I’m blessed to work with an outstanding staff and love a career where I can show up for my patients, my team, and most importantly, for my family.”
