Dr. Jennifer Chou has been a pediatric dentist in Rockwall for so many years — 17 years to be exact — that one could argue she has become a household name among the fun-loving kids and parents who trust her for all their oral health needs. However, she’s quick to say that many of those same families don’t always recognize her while out and about around town.
“I’ll wave at kids and their parents at the grocery store, and they’ll look at me confused,” Dr. Chou said with a laugh. “I can’t blame them because I’m always in my dental gear at the office, with my hair covered and my special dental glasses.”
“I find myself saying, ‘It’s me — I’m your dentist.’ It’s then that they recognize me.”
It’s easy to smile from ear to ear when you know you’re about to visit Dr. Chou and the rest of the team at The Smiley Tooth Pediatric Dental Specialists. This child-focused practice has served Rockwall families since 2008 and provides a full range of services for infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special needs — from routine cleanings and preventative treatments to pediatric sedation, emergency dentistry, and practically everything in between. Their goal is to make dentistry a great experience, and while their team of dentists continues to grow, Dr. Chou continues to be at the heart of it all.
A Houston native, Dr. Chou earned her Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University and continued with her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Tennessee. She went on to complete specialty training in pediatric dentistry at MetroHealth Medical Center, a teaching center of Case Western Reserve University. During her training, her peers selected Dr. Chou as chief resident.
Dr. Chou is a board certified diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of the North Texas Dental Society, Texas Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Beyond the professional accolades and hundreds of five-star Google reviews, kids and parents sing Dr. Chou’s praises because of her caring and bubbly chair-side manner and the fact that she continues to call Rockwall home.
She and her husband, Ketan Parekh, a local oral surgeon, live here and can’t imagine raising their two children elsewhere.
“I want families to know we’re here for them,” Dr. Chou said. “For emergencies, we always have one of our doctors available to answer phone calls, even after 5 PM. We are here to help parents when unexpected things happen with their children.”
