As the new director of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, Nicole DeGuzman brings award-winning experience from a career spanning over 25 years at museums nationwide. Yet, her vision for the Pearl is simple.
“Access to the arts has repeatedly been shown to enhance the quality of life,” says Nicole. “And the Pearl exists to make art accessible to everyone.”
With free admission, a variety of exciting programs, and cooperative partnerships, the Pearl brings art to every stage of life, from preschoolers to adults with dementia. Collaborations with local school districts allow thousands of children to visit the museum for field trips, while new outreach initiatives provide take-home art kits to food pantries during the holidays.
“The best ideas don’t come from my mind alone,” says Nicole. “My leadership style is collaborative — with staff, community leaders, and new partner organizations. Together, we can think outside the box.”
As a non-collecting museum, the Pearl hosts fresh exhibitions each spring, summer, and fall. This summer, the museum is excited to present an art exhibit you can touch.
“Art Unleashed: Creativity You Can FEEL!” is a family-friendly, interactive art exhibition suitable for all abilities.
“We are taking down the ropes,” says Nicole. “We encourage you to touch, feel, and engage with art in ways you never have.”
“Our community’s strength is rooted in a shared vision to support the arts, nurture creativity, and uplift diverse voices,” Nicole adds. “Together, we are forging a brighter future.”
