Dr. Cody Bauer has some big shoes to fill—and he knows it. He’s happily continuing the legacy his parents built as they’ve cared for generations of Greater Mansfield families for more than four decades. That legacy began in the early 80s, when Dr. John Bauer and his wife, Terri, decided Mansfield Texas—a place that had always felt like home—was the perfect spot to settle down, raise their family, and open their family dental practice.
Over the next four decades, the Bauers were rewarded for their hard work as generations of Mansfield families made Mansfield Family Dentistry their dental home. Dr. John and Terri partnered with the families of Greater Mansfield providing them cutting-edge restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
In 2009 their son, Dr. Cody Bauer, added a breath of fresh air to the family practice bringing with him a commitment to the latest advanced dental technology, a passion for cosmetic dentistry, and a commitment to proactive oral care that takes into account not just the teeth and gums but their direct impact on the health of the rest of the body.
For 16 years, the two Drs. Bauer worked with and learned from one another. Then, earlier this year, Dr. John turned the reins over to Dr. Cody secure in the fact that the younger Dr. Bauer would continue to honor the commitment his parents made to care for their Mansfield neighbors. While Dr. John is enjoying his well-earned retirement, Terri chose to stay on in her role as practice manager, a career she has loved for four decades.
Crafting a Dental Home
Amazingly, there are patients being treated by Dr. Cody who were not only treated by his father, but so were their parents—and their parents before them. “We treat three and even four generations of some local families,” Dr. Cody said. “Their trust in us and commitment to Mansfield Family Dentistry is humbling. We want to make sure, once they’re happy here, we offer them everything they need from simple cleanings and filling to advanced cosmetic procedures including teeth straightening and full-mouth makeovers. And as new technologies come on the market, we want to evaluate each one to see if it’s something we can offer our patients to make their care gentler and more precise.”
All Under One Roof
That one-stop-shop mentality means that, if Dr. Cody realizes during a routine check-up, that a patient could benefit from a root canal, tooth extraction, or dental implant or when they inquire about a cosmetic procedure, he rarely has to refer them out to another dental practice. “Just as my dad did, I complete hundreds of hours of continuing education every year and invest in the latest, cutting-edge dental technology, so we can provide our patients with cosmetic procedures such as tooth whitening, porcelain veneers, inlays, onlays, Invisalign clear braces, and permanent dental implants, right here in their dental home,” Dr. Cody said. “And if there are procedures they’d like us to offer, we’re open to looking into them and implementing them into the practice.”
Patient Education and Empowerment
Dr. Cody takes seriously his role of educator to his patient. “The more they understand about their oral health and the way it impacts their overall wellness, the better equipped they are to be an active participant in their own wellness,” he said. “It’s my job to provide each patient with the tools they need for a lifetime of vibrant oral health, especially now that links have been established between oral health and the health of the rest of the body and the chance of developing heart disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and other serious illnesses. Oral health is about much more than beautiful teeth.”
Downhome Friendly Care
Mansfield Family Dentistry has always been relationship-driven and that certainly hasn’t changed. “There’s nothing more rewarding to us than building relationships with our patients,” Dr. Cody said. “Nothing thrilled my parents more than watching a young patient grow, from before they lost their baby teeth to the day they brought their own kids in to see them. I look forward to doing the same thing.”
