Taylor Toombs Imel doesn’t remember a time in her life that she didn’t want to be a lawyer.

“Competition has always driven me,” she says. “It’s where I thrive.”

She also has personal experience with the kinds of changes that she deals with in family law. During her first year of law school, her parents divorced.

“Of course I found it very emotionally trying,” Imel says. “But I learned so much, and I wanted to help other people through those kinds of times in their lives.”

Imel is board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML). She received her JD from Southern Methodist University in 2010 and was a Dean’s Scholarship recipient. Imel attended Wake Forest University on a full athletic scholarship for women’s soccer.

While family law was Imel’s immediate choice after she completed law school, she knows it is not for everyone.

“Family law touches on so many areas,” she says. “It can involve vulnerable children, mental health, real estate, and so much more. It’s often a time when people’s emotions can get the best of them. You may see them at their worst. But we find such satisfaction in knowing we can support our clients through these difficult times.”

Imel practiced law for nine years at another firm before she chose to begin her own practice early in 2023. Her litigation team of Partner Walter J. Schouten, Jr. and Attorney Serena E. Hudson, along with their strong support staff, have forged a legal powerhouse in Texas family law.
