Rockwall County fire departments came together to present a check for more than $6,000 to beloved former teacher and current substitute teacher Michelle Mullins, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Rockwall Professional Firefighters Association holds an annual T-shirt fundraiser to raise money that will contribute toward medical expenses for a community member with breast cancer. Rockwall Fire Department, Heath Fire Department, and McClendon-Chisholm Fire Departments participated in this year’s fundraiser.

Captain Michael Caffey shared that the motivation for the fundraiser is to give back to the wonderful community of Rockwall County. When choosing a recipient, Captain Caffey said it was obvious how inspirational Mrs. Mullins is to both her teachers and colleagues.

Mrs. Mullins taught in Rockwall ISD for 13 years, with 10 of those years at Quest Academy. Last year, Mrs. Mullins made the difficult choice to resign from her position to focus on her treatment and getting better.

“I’m so thankful for this donation,” she said. “I’m ready to get back into the classroom and put cancer behind me.”
