Alexandra Charles-Kersey, the founder and visionary of Soul Tribes Yoga + Meditation, is passionate about building community and helping people create conscious, kind, and healthy life practices.

“I want to make yoga, meditation, and mindfulness accessible to everyone,” she says. “In some yoga studios it can feel very cliquey with a young hip crowd, and all about power or hot yoga. We’re not like that, but rather very chill with a gentle feel all around and welcoming to all. We’re for anybody with any body who wants to experience the benefits of moving, breathing, and being mindful.”

Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Alexandra’s career as a professional dancer brought her to the United States in 2014. She did musical theater, worked as a model and burlesque performer, and was honored to perform as a Las Vegas showgirl.

Alexandra began her personal yoga and meditation practice to heal from some injuries and find balance in her life. She fell in love with all of it, practicing several times a week and trying out different styles. Alexandra went on to get her teacher training so that she could teach yoga. The more she taught, the more in love she grew with learning and exploring. She knew she wanted to create her own studio, and in 2019, she did.

Alexandra shattered stereotypes by transcending the label of “just another girl opening a yoga studio.” Through her vision, determination, and business acumen, Soul Tribes Yoga + Meditation has become more than a yoga studio — it’s a vibrant community for everyone from seasoned yogis to first-timers.

“I love seeing the diverse community here,” she says. “So many members feel proud to be a member. It’s a touching and beautiful thing to know I’ve created a space that people love.”

Looking ahead, she wants to keep growing the membership and offering more trainings. “I want to keep building this community up,” she says. “We offer fantastic workshops for members and non-members, and we teach people how to go deeper in their practice or become teachers. It’s wonderful getting to connect with so many people.”

As the studio’s owner, Alexandra has not only built a thriving business but also crafted a beautiful life of her own. With careful planning and dedication, she has achieved an ideal balance in her life. Unlike the hectic pace of her former showgirl days, Alexandra now has plenty of time to enjoy life’s most meaningful moments, from hosting dinner guests to going on long walks with loved ones.

Whether you are an experienced practitioner or stepping onto the mat for the first time, Alexandra wants you to know you’re always welcome at her studio. She has created a space where everyone who enters feels valued and empowered to explore their practice.
