It’s a typical Thursday afternoon, and Dr. Lee Brock can’t help but gush over his new partner, Dr. Ronnie Stotts. There are so many good things to say about Dr. Stotts since he joined the practice in October, and Dr. Brock starts by highlighting the usual stuff, such as Dr. Stott’s chronic pain fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and how the two of them are practically cut from the same cloth with their down-to-earth, relationship-focused approach to helping their patients find relief.
However, when Dr. Brock adds that the much younger Dr. Stotts brings the latest and greatest pain management technology to the table, the conversation — and the examples he uses to illustrate his point — starts going in an unexpected albeit humorous direction.
“For instance, before Dr. Stotts joined me, I used gas lanterns in the office. He suggested I try electricity, and he was right,” Dr. Brock said with a laugh. “I am being facetious, of course. Brock Pain has always kept up with the latest techniques in pain management, including injection techniques, radiofrequency ablation techniques, and spinal cord stimulation. Dr. Stotts is adept at all of those and brings a new and fresh perspective. He also recommends increased use of peripheral nerve stimulation, which will prove to be beneficial for chronic pain patients. He is rejuvenating this practice.”
For their loyal patients at Brock Pain Medicine — many of whom have trusted Dr. Brock and his award-winning team with their pain management needs since he started the practice 33 years ago — those words mean even more assurance that the caring team they have in their corner is only getting better.
“Our practice has always been a family, and I think the people appreciate that,” Dr. Brock said. He’s been named Best Pain Doctor in Collin County by D Magazine and voted by Living readers as Best Pain Doctor in McKinney/Allen in 12 of the last 13 years. “It’s nice being popular, but we’ve been so busy that newly referred patients are having to wait longer than we’d like — sometimes up to three and four weeks. With Dr. Stotts here, people can get in to see us within one or two weeks. Therefore, I didn’t want to bring in just anyone. I wanted someone who shared the same values and concerns for the patient. It’s more than just numbers and diagnoses … these are human beings with difficulties, and they need help. C.S. Lewis once said, ‘Pain is God’s megaphone.’ It gets your attention and becomes the center of your world — to the point where you can hardly do anything else. You have to get relief, and it’s a special feeling when people come to us looking for help.”
Meet Dr. Stotts
Born and raised in Paris, Texas, Ronnie Stotts earned his medical degree from the prestigious Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in 2019. He went on to study internal medicine at George Washington University Hospital and completed an anesthesia residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston before earning his fellowship in June. His skills in the area of pain management include steroid injections, sympathetic blocks, joint injections, medication management, radiofrequency ablations, peripheral nerve blocks, and SCS trial and implant, to name a few.
More importantly, his bedside manner and commitment to doing the right thing for his patients fit Brock Pain Medicine’s philosophy. He has wanted to be a doctor since he was 5 years old. In fact, it was his pediatrician — ironically, his name was Dr. Brock, too — who convinced him that helping people live healthy lives was the best job in the world.
Once he decided to go the pain management route, the trick was finding the right practice to call home.
“I’d been looking for six months, and it wasn’t until we both went to the same conference in Dallas that we eventually got connected,” Dr. Stotts said. “It’s a true family here — you see it every day when everyone is on a first-name basis and giving hugs in the hallways.”
Achieving Pain Relief Now
By the time most people find their way to Brock Pain Medicine, they’ve spent years suffering from pain and frustration. What’s worse is that they’ve consulted their primary care doctor, chiropractors, and other specialists for acute and chronic pain ranging from headaches, neck pains, back pains, and complex regional pain syndrome to arthritic and post-traumatic joint pain, failed back surgery syndrome, and more. Dr. Brock, Dr. Stotts, and the entire team at Brock Pain Medicine are very much interested in relieving people of pain, restoring their function, and returning them to their quality of life.
Dr. Brock has developed a tried-and-true method of helping people live pain-free. In doing so, he’s learned the importance of having the right practitioners on his team. He’s hand-selected nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical assistants, such as Amanda Steele, PA, Brittany Moore-Hymes, NP, and Ebby Simmons, NP, to work alongside him at Brock Pain Medicine.
Dr. Stotts is the latest example of that commitment to excellence.
“Patients feel cared for, and that’s the strength of our team,” he said. “Most of us don’t realize how chronic or acute pain can affect every aspect of our life. You’re a healthy person. You eat right. You stay active. Suddenly, you develop lower back pain and can’t do the things you could. You can’t exercise, so you decondition in a downward spiral. Unremitting pain can color your life, your personality, your relationships, your prospects, your work, and your private life, and it’s not long before depression and hopelessness set in.
“Overall, our focus is on treating the individual with compassion and professionalism,” Dr. Brock said. “As I tell my patients, ‘I can’t make you brand new. Only Jesus can do that. But I can make you better than you are now.’”
