Q&A

Hair Salon

Is it bad that I never want to change my hairstyle?

Kind of! Hair should be considered an accessory; we’re gifted with being able to change it as often as we like. If we don’t love a new cut or color, there are things we can do to improve it, but we can grow it out and change it again. If you’re resistant to change, I recommend making “micro changes,” like adding a layer, growing out a fringe, or simply adding a face-framing highlight. Subtle changes can still have a big impact on how you look and feel about your hair. We wouldn’t wear the same style of clothes or shoes for a decade, so why do the same thing with our hair? Ultimately, though, you should wear your hair in a way that makes you feel the happiest.

I’d like to try another salon stylist, but I feel I’m cheating on my current stylist.

Please don’t feel guilty! We’re in the business of giving people hair they love, not sending them on a guilt trip. At Swish, we encourage guests to have a “back-up” stylist or two. We’ve found that life happens, schedules, beauty budgets, and tastes all change, or maybe you and another stylist just “get each other.” Go for it! We own “things,” not people; there should be no ill will from the original stylist. If there is, it might be time to try another salon with a healthier approach.

I just spent a lot of money, and it’s not what I asked for. What should I do?

If you’re disappointed with your recent hair service, your stylist probably feels the same. We understand and are here to help you achieve your hair goals. We’re all human; mistakes and miscommunications can occur despite our best intentions. Your feedback is undeniably valuable; it can be the key to turning a bad experience into a great one. We always encourage you to reach out to the salon and the stylist who provided your services and kindly share your concerns. The salon and stylist should be open to hearing your concerns and show a willingness to make an adjustment. We want you to love your hair.

Do I really need that in-salon-only hair treatment I’m often asked if I’d like to try?

We put our hair through a lot. Most of us receive repeat coloring services, blowdrying, and curling our hair, which will directly affect your hair’s health and integrity. The healthier your hair, the better performance it will give you. We wouldn’t put low-octane gas into a sports car; it needs a higher-quality gas to improve performance and handling. It’s the same thing with your hair. Professional in-salon-only treatments are the prescriptive remedy that supports your at-home haircare. Think of them as added insurance for your investment in your hair services. Ask your stylist what they think your hair needs and treat yourself the next time you’re in your stylist’s chair.
