Q&A

Chiropractor

What difference can chiropractic make for me?

Everything we do in chiropractic is to restore function. If your only goal was to relieve pain, you could take a pill for that. Through chiropractic, however, we want to identify the cause of that pain and take steps to correct it or at least get you to a less painful place, and then educate you about preventing the problem in the future. If you’re in pain, the first stage of treatment is about relieving that pain. The second is finding out why you’re hurting and addressing the cause. Then, we’ll work you toward exercise and stretching, so you can participate in your own wellness.

Will I need to continue seeing you?

Most chiropractic issues don’t happen overnight. They occurred slowly through years of misuse. I’m seeing teenagers now who’ve been looking down at a screen since they were two. They carry a backpack that’s a third of their body weight, go to college and work on computers all day, then get a job working on a computer. Just as they see a dentist but still need to brush and floss, I counsel with them — or patients of any age — about eating right, sleeping, exercising, drinking enough water, and, yes, making chiropractic adjustments a routine part of their lives. A chiropractor is a functional doctor who can partner with you to begin undoing some of the damage and restoring your natural, healthy function.

I know you treat patients suffering with peripheral neuropathy. Can you explain what that is and how you treat it?

Chiropractors work on nerves and circulation. Neuropathy is a nerve and circulation problem. Twenty million Americans suffer from nerve damage in their hands, legs, or feet. The main way this damage is treated is with medication which does nothing to address their problem. Our goal is to find and address the root cause of their neuropathy and then stop the progression of nerve damage and reverse it when we can. We also counsel about losing excess weight, getting more exercise, stretching, and eliminating inflammatory foods for better quality of life. Our goal is to help you function better with less pain.

Can chiropractic care improve my golf game?

If you’re a bad golfer like me, I can probably improve your physical performance. But I can’t do much about your skill level. But if you’re a good golfer with some alignment issues, yes, I can make you a better golfer. I’ll check you for spinal misalignment, get your nervous system working better, and maybe prescribe some custom orthotics for your shoes. Performance is all about function, and chiropractic can help your body function better.

Is chiropractic safe for babies and young children?

Chiropractic is one of the safest healthcare solutions. Medical insurance is based on risk factors, and most chiropractors pay the lowest medical insurance because it’s so safe. When a child’s spine is misaligned, it can affect their development. Chiropractic approaches are extremely safe and healthy for babies and young children, but spinal realignment is effective at any age.
