If you’ll indulge me a corny metaphor. The joints in your body are like that neighborhood joint where folks come together to hang out and shoot the bull. You know, the place where “everybody knows your name”. Your body’s “joints” are where your bones, ligaments, tendons, and muscles meet and mingle.
Under ideal circumstances, all these “neighbors” get along. But what happens if a brawl breaks out. When things go awry with your bones and joints, the Bone Docs can help. Drs. John Harris and Edward Mairura at Methodist Orthopedic Specialists have helped thousands of your Tarrant County neighbors when they found their quality of life threatened by issues of the bones and joints. They can help you, too.
This duo advocates a patient-forward philosophy in their practice offering each patient their full attention at each visit and treating them as a person—not just an X-ray. “A patient is more than a broken bone or case of arthritis,” said Dr. John Harris. “Our goal is to get each unique patient back to their favorite activities as soon and as safely as possible.”
For Dr. Edward Mairura, patient relationships are the best part of the job. “Our goal is to listen first, treat patients like members of our own family, and to offer surgery only as a last resort, after all non-surgical treatment options have been explored,” he said. “Dr. Harris and I hope our faith in Jesus Christ reflects in our work daily and positively affects everyone we meet and treat.”
These two family men are deeply involved in their community and their church and both enjoy bringing humor into their practice, connecting with patients and their staff, and keeping the practice of medicine light and upbeat. They also believe strongly in sharing what God has given them by participating in medical mission trip to treat underserved populations in other countries.
Dr. Mairura specializes in general orthopaedic surgery with a special interest in trauma, robotic total knee replacements, robotic anterior hip replacements, arthroscopic treatment of the knee, carpal tunnel, and trigger fingers. He has specialized training in the anterior hip replacement approach, a minimally invasive technique that allows patients to have a muscle sparing surgery that leads to a faster recovery and less pain.
Dr. Harris enjoys performing shoulder and knee replacements, fractures “from top to bottom”, especially knee and shoulder arthroscopy, and treating injuries such as ACL and meniscus tears, rotator cuff injuries and shoulder dislocations. He is fellowship trained in sports and arthroscopy.
They’re now able to offer the Mako SmartRobotics total joint replacement which gives us the ability to tailor the surgery to the patient’s unique anatomy, delivering a more personalized experience and supports better surgical outcomes than traditional surgery. Don’t just live with bone and joint pain. Find out more and schedule your appointment with The Bone Docs at MethodistBoneDocs.com.
