Nazayat Parvez was raised with the idea of community service. After watching her mother give of herself as a social worker for 40 years, it was only natural Nazayat would look for her own way to serve her community. With an innate bent toward science and a talent for arts and crafts, Nazayat soon realized a career in dentistry would allow her to use her God-given talents plus the benevolent spirit she’d inherited from her parents to impact lives. And her patients are so glad she did!
When she landed a job at the family dental practice of Couture Dentistry, Dr. Naz (as she’s affectionately known) knew she’d found a kindred spirit in Dr. Nelson Lo. “This practice has a reputation for being patient centered,” she said. “Patients literally fly here from around the world, sometimes just for a cleaning. They know Dr. Lo and all the staff truly care about them and helping them maintain optimum oral health. I knew I wanted to be associated with a practice that’s so beloved by its patients and so well respected in the community.
“I also appreciate the way we treat the mouth as a system,” Dr. Naz said. “Rather than just looking at a single broken tooth, for instance, we look to diagnose why it broke in the first place and to treat the root cause of the issue, not just the result of it. We want Couture Dentistry to be a true dental home to our patients.”
All Under One Roof
Together with their hand-selected staff, Drs. Lo and Naz run Couture Dentistry as a one-stop shop for patients. “Once our patients feel comfortable with us, we do everything we can to be their total-care providers,” said Founding Dentist Dr. Lo. “We want them to know we can take care of everything for them right here. Additionally, we offer our patients a lifetime warranty on crowns and implants.” It’s easy to stand behind your work when you have a less than one percent failure rate.
Help for Dental Anxiety
Another aspect of Couture Dentistry that attracted Dr. Naz is their care for patients with dental anxiety. “Patients often come to us with dental phobia,” she said. “These fears are very real to them. We’ve compiled a full menu of what we call ‘comfort items’ to try to make their time with us anxiety-free.” Those items include weighted blankets, noise-canceling headphones, eye masks, cocoa butter to keep lips moist throughout treatment, and a handheld massager to help make injections more bearable. More than anything, they take the time to truly listen to their patients’ requests and concerns and to answer all of their questions before any treatment begins.
Empowering Patients
Drs. Lo and Naz take seriously their role as educator, spending time with each patient teaching them about the issues they see in their mouth, the likely cause, how they can address it, and avoid it in the future, and educating them about the ways an unhealthy mouth can impact all the systems of the body including the respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic/endocrine, and reproductive systems.
Meet Dr. Naz
While Drs. Lo and Naz both offer comprehensive, primary oral healthcare, including preventive, restorative, cosmetic, and diagnostic care, Dr. Naz has a particular passion for cosmetic dentistry and offering someone the smile they’ve always wanted. “There’s so much we can do from simple whitening to full-mouth makeovers,” she said. “I enjoy creating veneers — both composite and porcelain — and straightening smiles with Invisalign or traditional braces. We can also correct gummy smiles with a one-day in-office procedure. Our smile makeover consultations are complimentary. We can show you your new smile in two ways: either virtually with a before and after photo or you can wear a ‘trial’ smile on top of your natural teeth. See the possibilities before you make any decisions.”
When not on the job, Dr. Naz loves spending time with her husband and their golden retriever, Skittles, playing pickleball, or hanging out with friends. Fun facts—Dr. Naz loves to sing and is half Puerto Rican and half Pakistani.
Meet Dr. Lo
Nelson Lo began his professional career as a computer engineer before obtaining his DDS at the University of Illinois at Chicago and completing his advanced training in residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals, focusing on oral surgery and prosthodontics.
His early training in computer technology has served him well as dental technology continually advances. Over the years, Dr. Lo has pioneered many dental breakthroughs incorporating the best and latest technology into his practice for dentistry that’s, at the same time, gentler and more precise. In fact, Dr. Lo serves on the Product Advisory Board for Kerr Endodontics, a trusted manufacturer of endodontic instruments and supplies. He’s also a popular lecturer educating others in his field in continuing education classes for Nobel Biocare, the oldest and most studied manufacturer of dental implants and CAD/CAM based individualized prosthetics. Dr. Lo also teaches continuing education classes for Carestream Dental Imaging.
Next-Generation Technology
Some of the immerging dental technology that’s impacting the lives of Couture Dentistry patients is digital radiography, the highest available resolution digital sensors to detect oral disease at its earliest stage, 2D X-ray technology to aid in most treatment planning, 3D Cone Beam CT scanning technology for precise measurements down to two-tenths of a millimeter, intraoral cameras that offer patients a virtual tour of their oral cavity, metal-free crowns for more bio-compatibility and greater esthetics, and veneers and crowns produced by the country’s top dental laboratories.
“But we realize the best technology in the world doesn’t replace a compassion dentist who truly cares about you and your oral health,” Dr. Lo said. “That’s what Dr. Naz and I aim to be.” Find out more about the dental team that has patients flying to them from around the world at CoutureDentist.com.
