When Terri Bauer and her husband, Dr. John Bauer, first opened Mansfield Family Dentistry, they were in the midst of raising their own young family. For four decades, Terri was blessed to work alongside her husband as she hired, trained, and managed staff and oversaw scheduling, billing, insurance, and inventory. She and Dr. John forged long-lasting relationships with the families of Greater Mansfield, invested in the development of their staff, and watched their children grow up and leave home—soon to bless them with amazing grandchildren.

To add to their blessings, 17 years ago, the Bauers welcomed their son, Dr. Cody Bauer, to practice alongside his dad. Last year, Dr. John retired and Terri stayed on to work with Dr. Cody. Together, they are passionate about patient education, empowering their patients with knowledge about the importance of oral health and its direct connection to the health of the rest of the body.

“We all know that good oral health means a beautiful smile, fresh breath, and fewer cavities,” Terri said. “But did you know that poor oral health can lead to various health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, respiratory issues, Alzheimer’s, and cancers not just of the mouth but the gastrointestinal tract, lung, breast, prostate gland, and uterus?”

Poor oral health can also contribute to eating disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, and an immune system condition that causes dry mouth called Sjogren’s syndrome. “Dr. Cody and I take seriously our role as educators arming our patients with the knowledge to maintain optimum oral health,” Terri said. It’s a campaign Dr. John began that Terri and Dr. Cody are passionate about continuing.

“We help our patients to be proactive about maintaining a healthy mouth,” Terri said. “That includes brushing their teeth and tongue at least twice a day, using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, flossing every time they brush, eating a healthy diet with little to no sugary food or drinks, avoiding tobacco products, and seeing dental professionals every six months for a checkups and professional cleaning.”

For more than 40 years, Mansfield Family Dentistry has partnered with patients to maintain their all-important oral health. Patients have thanked them by voting Mansfield Family Dentistry “Best Family Dentist” year after year. The Bauers have also been humbled to have patients moved away but arrange their schedule around returning to Mansfield for biannual visits to Mansfield Family Dentistry. “And one of our greatest blessings has been watching young patients grow up, get married, then bring their own kids to us,” Terri said.

Terri strive to be a compassionate, caring leader inside and outside the office. “I want to empower those around me through knowledge, education, and love, to be a good listener and walk through fire for those who walk with me, to preach the gospel through the things I do and say and the woman I am,” she said.
