Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry

By Cheryl Ricer

Sometimes, helping a child feel comfortable at the dentist takes a song, a little dancing, or a reassuring hand to hold. At Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry, those small gestures are part of a bigger commitment: making sure children feel understood and parents feel confident about their care.

That commitment helps explain why families continue to recognize the practice with Living magazine’s Best Of honors. Led by owner Dr. Shilpa Chandiwal, the Sugar Land and Katy offices approach each appointment with an understanding that a child’s experience affects the whole family.

The goal is to support everyone involved, treating children and their parents like family.

For parents bringing in a nervous child, that philosophy begins before anyone settles into the dental chair. Team members review the schedule, prepare for each patient, explain the day’s treatment, and welcome questions. The conversation continues throughout the appointment and afterward, with families encouraged to call whenever concerns arise.

Inside, bright colors, movies, books, and interactive tablets help create an inviting setting. The team adjusts its approach to each child, recognizing that what reassures a toddler may look very different from what helps a teenager relax.

Dr. Shilpa brings substantial training to that personal approach. A board-certified pediatric dentist, she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with honors from Columbia University and has more than 17 years of clinical experience. Her care emphasizes prevention, education, and building trust, giving children opportunities to ask questions and become familiar with dental instruments before treatment begins.

It is an approach that gives parents time to understand their options and children time to develop a little courage.

Services include examinations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, crowns, and orthodontic care. For children whose needs require additional support, the practice offers sedation options and hospital-based dental treatment. Dr. Shilpa also cares for patients with special healthcare needs, including some who continue with the practice into adulthood.

That commitment can mean extending her day to accommodate a patient, arriving early or staying late so a family can receive the attention and care their child needs from a familiar team.

Working alongside Dr. Shilpa are Dr. Cindy Hurd, Dr. Jennifer Mata, and Dr. James Bui. Each brings a distinct strength, from connecting with teens to helping younger patients settle in with a friendly smile. Together, they share a willingness to adapt, encourage, and find the approach that works for the child in front of them.

That consideration extends to busy parents, too, with appointments offered one Saturday each month.

For Dr. Shilpa and her team, a successful visit means addressing dental needs while helping a child feel ready to return. Over time, those reassuring experiences can become something families carry forward: confidence in their care and a healthier relationship with visiting the dentist.

“Teeth Matter. Food Matters.

Because Every Smile Matters.”
