Dr. Stacey Smith, DDS, of Dental Designs by Alisa Reed in The Woodlands, is more than just a skilled dentist — she is a leader, mentor, and advocate for patient care. From her early years in dental school to her ongoing efforts in education and community outreach, Dr. Smith has dedicated her career to providing excellent dental care and fostering the next generation of dental professionals.
“In any educational endeavor, you don’t sit on the sidelines — you participate,” Dr. Smith shares. “I’ve prioritized contributing for the betterment of everything I’m involved in.” This mindset shaped her journey, from serving as a class officer in dental school to taking an active role in outreach programs that provide much-needed dental care to underserved communities in South Texas.
Dr. Smith’s leadership in dentistry is evident in her expertise. After completing her residency, she stepped into a teaching role at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she trained dental residents in implant placement. “Because my professor taught so well, I was able to continue her same techniques and maintain a strong program even after she left,” she says. Now many of Dr. Smith’s former students continue to use the skills she taught, a testament to her lasting impact.
Dr. Smith is also passionate about mentoring future dentists. Local high school and college students aspiring to enter dental school often shadow her and Dr. Reed, gaining invaluable insight into the profession. “It’s amazing to see them now in dental school or already practicing,” she says. “Knowing I had a small part in their journey is incredibly rewarding.”
Within her practice, Dr. Smith prioritizes patient comfort and trust. She understands that many patients have had negative dental experiences and strives to change their perspective. “Many people come in saying, ‘No offense, but I don’t like dentists,’ because of a bad past experience,” she explains. “I always tell them, ‘I’m sorry you went through that, but if you’ll allow me, I’d love to change that for you.’”
Her leadership extends into community service, where she raises awareness of oral health issues, particularly oral cancer. Through local sponsorships and events, Dental Designs by Alisa Reed donates oral hygiene kits, educational materials, and even participates in fundraisers to support dental health initiatives. “It’s about making sure people know where to go for sound dentistry and helping them stay informed,” she notes.
Dr. Smith’s commitment reaches beyond Texas. As part of a ministry outreach program, she provides dental education and hygiene supplies to underprivileged communities in Mexico, where access to basic dental care is scarce. “Many of these families don’t even have running water,” she says. “Providing them with toothbrushes and toothpaste is important but educating them on how to care for their teeth is even more impactful.”
For Dr. Smith, leadership in dentistry is about continuous learning, mentorship, and patient care. “Education is everything,” she affirms. “Staying informed and passing on knowledge is how we truly make a difference.”
