Q&A
Hair Stylist
Do hair extensions damage your hair?
No. High-quality extensions properly applied by an experienced professional will not damage your hair. We use Bellami, Babe, and Beauvoir hair extensions because they can maintain a radiant and smooth texture without the need for synthetic coatings, such as silicone. This results in glossy, gorgeous hair with no damage. Make sure the stylist applying your extensions has excellent training and a wealth of experience.
As a woman in my 40s, 50s, or 60s, am I too old for shimmer eye shadow?
Shimmer shadow can wake up eyes of any age, not just younger ones, and bring that luxurious glow you’re looking for. Shimmer eye shadow can be added to your eye palette as a highlight. With proper contouring and the right color scheme, shimmer can make your eyes your standout feature. Again, look for a makeup artist with plenty of experience who knows how to unlock your best look.
I’d like more body in my hair but I’m afraid of permanents. What can I do?
Due to the influence of social media, we’re seeing more teens and young adults, even young men, asking for permanents. Permanents have improved from the scary, super smelly, day-long experiences we once knew. Modern perms contain gentler ingredients. When done correctly and by a professional, with your specific hair type in mind, perms should not cause damage to your hair.
What’s the difference between a straightener and a keratin treatment or Brazilian Blowout?
A straightener changes the structure of the hair. It contains two products: a solution and a neutralizer. You have to be very careful straightening highlighted or previously relaxed hair. A keratin treatment or Brazilian Blowout is a smoothing system. It fills in the cracks in the hair cuticle. The treatment is then sealed with a curling iron. It doesn’t change the structure of your hair and cuts your blow-drying time drastically. We definitely recommend the keratin treatment, especially for frizzy hair.
Should I choose lip stain, lip lacquer, or velvet lipstick?
Janelle Alexis Cosmetics offers all three of these options. Each one is made with high-quality ingredients to suit every situation. Which one you choose depends on how you spend your day and which look you prefer. Our lipsticks are specifically formulated to be non-drying and offer a lasting shine. They contain Vitamin E and a vanilla extract. Lip lacquer offers a high-impact pigment with a fade-proof, stay-put finish. It contains the maximum staining pigment. Velvet lipstick will give you a highly pigmented, creamy, and long-wearing velvet matte. Because I’m on the go all day and prefer not to have to reapply my lip color, I prefer the lip stain. But the choice is up to you.
