Sean and Kathy Duffy, owners of Integrity Roofing & Construction, are quick to point out that their faith in Christ is the most important thing in their lives.
“Our perspective in being in the business world is that we’re not businesspeople who happen to be Christians,” said Sean, “we’re Christians who happen to be businesspeople. Everything we do is rooted in our faith, including our business.”
Owning a business was not one of Sean’s life goals. But life has a way of taking unexpected turns that end up becoming life-changing blessings. In 2001, Sean and Kathy had just moved to Houston after a six-month ministry trip in the U.K. A pastor friend introduced Sean to someone who owned a roofing and vinyl siding company who hired Sean as a salesman. Initially, he took the job to pay off some bills before transitioning into another ministry endeavor. Kathy teamed up with Sean, and through their combined efforts, the company he was working for exploded in growth. They quickly paid off their debt, and at the same time, began to learn valuable aspects of the roofing and construction industry.
A few years later, a minister invited Sean and Kathy to help plant a church in the DFW area, so they moved to Keller in 2003. Sean was on pastoral staff and taught at the Bible school. Kathy became director of operations for the senior pastor’s evangelistic ministry and Sean served on his ministry board.
Soon after, Sean began to sense a leading from God to start his own company and name it “Integrity Roofing.” He put it on the shelf. Then, one day while meeting with the senior pastor to discuss ministry opportunities with the church, the pastor suggested Sean open his own roofing company and call it Integrity Roofing, “Because,” he said, “people are looking for integrity in the business world, Sean.” The pastor had no idea that Sean had been praying about starting a company and naming it “Integrity.”
The Duffys opened the business from their home in September 2004, and they’ve been bi-vocational as ministers and business owners ever since. Sean started Integrity by knocking on doors and talking to people in communities where recent storms had created damage, asking them if they’d had post-storm roof inspections. Some had, some had not. To those who hadn’t, he offered a free inspection to check for damage, and Integrity Roofing & Construction was off and running.
With integrity as their cornerstone and a mission to treat every customer’s home/property as if it’s their own, Sean asserts that finding a professional, trustworthy contractor should be every homeowner’s top priority.
Why Integrity?
Most of Integrity’s customers come through referrals, which speaks for itself. They are local with an office (891 Keller Parkway, Keller, 76248); they have general liability insurance; they offer enhanced warranties as a preferred contractor with GAF; and they are members of the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating, The Good Contractors List, and the North Texas Roof Contractors Association. Even better, at the helm are a husband-and-wife team with whom customers get to know and enjoy firsthand interact.
The Process
“If you live in North Texas,” said Sean, “it’s not if, but when, you’re going to need to replace your roof because of storm damage.”
The only way to know for sure if there’s damage is to have it inspected. Integrity will schedule an inspection of your roof by a service team member specially trained by their in-house, licensed, independent insurance adjuster, who’ll determine the degree of damage (if any) to the roof. If there’s damage, then you’ll contact your insurance carrier for further evaluation.
Next, your insurance carrier will schedule a time for an inspection. Integrity will meet with them during their inspection to review Integrity’s damage assessment of the property so that they understand what repairs are needed to restore your property to its pre-damage condition.
In most cases, if the insurance carrier has determined that the roof needs to be replaced, the homeowner’s out-of-pocket cost is the deductible, plus any upgrades or additional work outside the insurance scope. Insurance covers everything else.
Homeowners sometimes find it challenging to come up with the money to pay their deductible. To help with that, Integrity offers various payment options, including financing.
“Our goal is to make the process of restoring your home as smooth and seamless as possible,” said Kathy. “As a full-service general contractor, we’re a one-stop shop. Roofing, siding, gutters, chimneys, fences, windows, painting, interior work — we pretty much do it all, including commercial roofing.” And, as you might expect, they especially love working with churches.
Sean and Kathy’s passion is to help, serve and live out their faith everywhere they go, whether it’s through their business or ministry endeavors. Whether they’re helping a homeowner with an emergency roofing issue or taking kids from a local children’s home to a faith-based movie and pizza. Whether they’re helping a widow get a free roof through Habitat for Humanity or traveling to a distant country to share God’s love with people. To the Duffys, helping others is what life is all about.
Some Don’ts:
- Don’t do business with “storm chasers.”
- “It’s always best to find a company that is in your community,” said Sean. “We service Keller and the DFW Metroplex, so we are a local company that will be around if you have any issues down the road.”
- Don’t do business with a contractor who says that they’ll offer to help with your deductible or make it vanish. “That’s insurance fraud,” explained Kathy. “Run away from any contractor who offers to do something like that.”
Some Dos:
- Find a company that’s been in business for a while and not a newcomer to the industry.
- Make sure they have general liability insurance.
- Check the company out online. See what roofing associations they belong to, their BBB rating, their reviews.
- Find a contractor who will send out an honest, experienced professional to conduct the inspection.
- “We don’t try to sell you a roof you don’t need,” said Sean. “If you don’t have storm damage, we will let you know so you don’t file an insurance claim unnecessarily.
Towards this end, Integrity has a strong roof repair and maintenance department. Whenever they can extend the life of someone’s roof with simple maintenance or a repair, that’s a good thing.
