Drew and Lindsey Burleson can’t wait to have more children. In fact, with three beautiful girls already in the fold — including one born this past June — the happy couple is already talking about having a fourth child sooner rather than later. And when they do, there is zero debate over where they want that bundle of joy to be delivered: Baylor Scott & White — McKinney. That’s where their daughters Quinn (6), Finnley (4), and Austin (5 months) were born, and each 5-star experience somehow one-upped the previous stay.

“My doctors were great, and every nurse we had was better than the one before,” Lindsey said. “I had three or four nurses each time since they change every few hours, and I didn’t want any of them to end their shifts because I’d bond with them. But the next one would come in, and they were amazing, too. We were in the best hands possible.”

Expecting parents in North Texas have plenty of options when it comes to quality, patient and family-centered labor and delivery facilities, and the Burlesons are certainly no different. Starting from their home in Merit, there’s a local hospital a mere 15 minutes away in Greenville. They also pass by several options in Allen, Dallas, and McKinney. But they drove past all of them on their 30-minute trek to University Drive. Part of that was because of the hospital’s reputation — Drew’s sister is a nurse in the Baylor Scott & White system, and a friend had worked for the hospital and suggested they have Quinn there six years ago. But you also have to live up to that reputation, and the Baylor Scott & White team proved with each subsequent pregnancy that they were ready.

“Their reputation is what brought us there, and how they treat us is what keeps us coming back,” Drew said. “It was very welcoming, and the staff went out of its way to make us comfortable and give Lindsey whatever she needed. We’ll definitely be back soon.”

Nationally Recognized Labor and Delivery

Baylor Scott & White’s Labor and Delivery department has always believed your big moment is one of a kind. And your care should be, too. It is one of only 14 hospitals in Texas to be recognized as a high-performing hospital for maternity by U.S. News & World Report. To be recognized among the best hospitals for maternity, hospitals have to excel on multiple quality metrics that matter to expectant families, including complication rates, Cesarean sections, whether births are scheduled too early in pregnancy, and how successfully each hospital supports breastfeeding.

Bottom line: Where you deliver your baby matters. Baylor Scott & White — McKinney is a Level III Maternal Center, Level III Neonatal ICU, and a proud Texas Ten Step Program member, which aims to improve maternity care practices in birthing facilities. As a state-designated Level III NICU, the hospital can care for very small or sick newborn babies. Level III NICUs have a wide variety of staff onsite, including neonatologists, neonatal nurses, and respiratory therapists. They are also backed by the breadth, depth, and sophistication of Baylor Scott & White Health, Texas’ largest not-for-profit healthcare system.

“The labor and delivery nursing team at BSW McKinney provides quality care, focusing not only on patient safety but also on providing an amazing patient experience,” said Casey Kindla, BSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM, NE-BC. “Our team approach to care allows us to collaborate and provide quality care for all patients who we have the privilege of serving.”

Lindsey couldn’t agree more.

“I’m a stay-at-home mom now, but I have been in and out of the medical profession, so I trust these healthcare providers and do what they recommend,” Lindsey said. “I did the tour beforehand and saw how they operated. I loved how organized and efficient everything was. From the time you checked in to getting to your room, it was all very quick and not drawn out. They had everything verified through insurance and knew what to expect. You appreciate that as a patient because you’re already nervous and don’t want to sit in an office when it’s close to the time you need to give birth.”

Three Easy Pregnancies

Lindsey was induced with all three pregnancies. She was in labor for 12 hours with Quinn in 2017 and showed signs of pre-eclampsia, a serious blood pressure condition many mothers experience during pregnancy. But she never once lost faith in her doctors or the nursing staff once it was time to deliver, and everything went off without a hitch.

Finnley was born two years later without any issues. In June, they welcomed baby Austin.

“I look at Austin every day and realize, ‘She needs a little buddy soon,’” Lindsey said. “We’ll take our time, of course. But we’ve got it all mapped out, and we can’t imagine going anywhere else when that time comes.”
