Beautiful skin is about more than what we see in the mirror. For Dr. Janine Hopkins, it is also a reflection of what is happening beneath the surface — and an opportunity to take a more proactive approach to lifelong health.

Since opening her Southlake practice in 2021, Dr. Hopkins has continued to expand its services, incorporating advanced technology and innovative treatments. Now, she is preparing to introduce an elevated experience: Hopkins Dermatology Institute of Skin Health and Wellness, bringing together medical dermatology, aesthetic treatments, and a more comprehensive approach to skin health.

“My goal is to work with each patient to develop a personalized skin health and wellness roadmap—a thoughtful plan that brings together prevention, treatment, and rejuvenation to support lasting skin health and overall well-being.”

A Personalized Path to Healthier Skin

That philosophy begins with understanding each patient’s unique needs, from teenagers managing acne to adults addressing sun damage, hormonal changes, and visible aging.

Using advanced photographic imaging, Dr. Hopkins can evaluate concerns beneath the skin’s surface and develop individualized treatment plans. These may incorporate medical-grade skincare, laser rejuvenation, energy-based treatments, and carefully selected wellness therapies.

For women navigating perimenopause and menopause, she emphasizes the relationship between hormonal changes and skin health.

“My approach to skin rejuvenation goes beyond Botox and fillers,” she said. “I look at the whole patient, including hormonal and other internal changes that may be affecting the skin, to develop a more comprehensive, personalized treatment plan.”

Her evolving approach also incorporates research into peptides, growth factors, and other emerging therapies, with an emphasis on responsible sourcing and evidence-based care.

Technology That Changes the Conversation

Innovation is equally important in treating medical concerns. Working alongside colleague Dr. Douglas Farris, Dr. Hopkins offers advanced hair-loss evaluations using TrichoScan technology, which measures hair growth and shedding patterns.

Genetic testing can also help identify medications that may be better suited to individual patients, reducing the traditional trial-and-error approach. Similar testing is available to help guide treatment decisions for certain eczema patients.

Another exciting addition is advanced mole-mapping technology, introduced to the Southlake practice to strengthen skin cancer surveillance. High-resolution photography documents existing moles, while sophisticated software compares subsequent images to identify changes in size, shape, or color.

Combined with comprehensive skin examinations and dermoscopy, the technology provides another valuable tool for monitoring suspicious lesions and supporting earlier melanoma detection.

Looking Ahead

For Dr. Hopkins and Dr. Farris, these advancements represent something bigger than adding services. They reflect a fundamental shift from reacting to problems toward anticipating patients’ needs.

Whether helping a teenager establish healthy habits, restoring sun-damaged skin, or addressing age-related changes, their goal remains consistent: combining medical expertise, technology, and personalized attention to help patients look — and feel — their best.

At Hopkins Dermatology, the future of beautiful skin begins with healthier skin — from the inside out.

“My goal is to work with each patient to develop a personalized skin health and wellness roadmap—a thoughtful plan that brings together prevention, treatment, and rejuvenation to support lasting skin health and overall well-being.”
