Laura Cervantes, FNP, the founder of Liberty Family Care & Wellness, is committed to making healthcare a more personal experience for her patients. With more than a decade of nursing experience, Laura has almost completed her latest milestone: a doctorate in nursing. This accomplishment will allow her to provide even better care for patients of all ages.
Laura’s healthcare journey began after she served in the Marine Corps. Driven by a desire to help others, she earned an associate degree in nursing and worked as a dialysis nurse. “It was heartbreaking to see patients suffering from end-stage renal failure,” Laura says. “Many of these cases could have been prevented with earlier intervention, which inspired me to become a nurse practitioner.”
As a family nurse practitioner, Laura focused on prevention, particularly helping people avoid chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Wanting to provide the best possible care, Laura decided to pursue a doctorate in nursing. “The knowledge I’m gaining in my doctorate program is invaluable,” she says. “I’m excited to apply this advanced knowledge to help my patients live healthier, longer lives.”
At Liberty Family Care & Wellness, Laura aims to build lasting relationships with her patients. She believes that healthcare is not just about treating symptoms but also about understanding the whole person. “I want to know about my patients’ family dynamics, how they’re sleeping, and how they’re feeling,” Laura says. “If I’m treating someone for high blood pressure, but they’re also caring for an elderly parent, I need to consider how that impacts their stress and sleep. That’s key to providing the right treatment.”
This holistic approach is something Laura applies in all aspects of her practice, particularly with her diabetic patients. “I’ve had patients make incredible strides, like cutting out snacks and getting their whole families involved in healthy habits,” Laura says. “It’s amazing to see how one person’s health journey can transform their entire family’s lifestyle.”
One of the most meaningful aspects of Laura’s work is her dedication to serving veterans. “Veterans often face unique challenges when seeking care,” she says. “They’ve been through so much, and sometimes they don’t know where to turn for help. I want them to know they have a provider who truly understands their needs and is dedicated to helping them.”
Whether you’re managing a chronic condition, seeking preventive care, or just looking for a compassionate healthcare provider, Liberty Family Care & Wellness is here to help. “I want to empower my patients to take charge of their health,” Laura says. “It’s about building a relationship where you feel heard, understood, and supported every step of the way.”
Outside of work, Laura enjoys spending time with her family — especially her 8-year-old daughter. “She’s at such a fun age,” Laura says. “I love seeing life through her eyes.”
